CBR is a Canadian non-commercial educational station, non-commercial public radio, public radio station in Calgary, Alberta. It broadcasts the programming of the CBC Radio One network, both on 1010 Hertz, kHz on the AM dial (as a list of broadcast station classes, Class A clear-channel station) and 99.1 Hertz, MHz on the FM dial as CBR-FM-1. The studios are in the Parkdale neighbourhood of northwest Calgary. The AM transmitter is east of Calgary, off the Trans-Canada Highway in Rocky View, Alberta, Rocky View. The FM transmitter is off Old Banff Coach Road near 85th Street SW in Calgary. The AM daytime signal covers most of the southern two-thirds of Alberta. All-news Radio
All-news radio is a radio format devoted entirely to the discussion and broadcast of news. All-news radio is available in both local and radio syndication, syndicated forms, and is carried on both major US satellite radio networks. All-news stations can run the gamut from simulcasting an all-news television station like CNN, to a "rip and read" headline service, to stations that include live coverage of news events and long-form public affairs programming. CBXFT-DT (channel 11) is an Ici Radio-Canada Télé station in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, serving the province's Franco-Albertan population. It is part of a twinstick with CBC Television station CBXT-DT (channel 5). The two stations share studios at the Edmonton City Centre (across from Churchill Square) in Downtown Edmonton; CBXFT-DT's transmitter is located in Sherwood Park. History The station first signed on the air on March 1, 1970. For its first three years, 1970 to 1973, CBXFT also aired weekday English-language educational programming from the Metropolitan Edmonton Educational Television Association (MEETA). The cycle per second is a once-common English name for the unit of frequency now known as the ''hertz'' (Hz). Effective Radiated Power
Effective radiated power (ERP), synonymous with equivalent radiated power, is an IEEE standardized definition of directional radio frequency (RF) power, such as that emitted by a radio transmitter. It is the total power in watts that would have to be radiated by a half-wave dipole antenna to give the same radiation intensity (signal strength or power flux density in watts per square meter) as the actual source antenna at a distant receiver located in the direction of the antenna's strongest beam (main lobe).
