C.P. Stacey Prize
The C.P. Stacey Prize (also known as the ''C.P. Stacey Award'') is given by the C.P. Stacey Award Committee and the Laurier Centre for the Study of Canada (formerly the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies, it took over administration of the award in 2018 from the Canadian Committee for the History of the Second World War) "for distinguished publications on the twentieth-century military experience." Charles Perry Stacey
Colonel Charles Perry Stacey (30 July 1906 – 17 November 1989) was a Canadian historian and university professor. He served as the official historian of the Canadian Army in the Second World War and published extensively on military and political matters. Early life and education Stacey was born in Toronto, Ontario to Dr Charles Edward Stacey (1860–1927) and Pearl Perry (1878–1964). The Stacey family was of Anglo-Irish, Church of Ireland origin. After attending the University of Toronto Schools, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Toronto in 1927. In 1924 he joined the Canadian Militia. Stacey received a second bachelor's degree in history from Corpus Christi College, Oxford, in 1929. He received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Princeton University in 1933. Norman Hillmer
George Norman Hillmer (born 1942) is a Canadian historian and is among the leading scholars on Canada–US relations. Hillmer completed his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in history at the University of Toronto in 1966 and 1967, respectively, before going on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Christ's College, Cambridge, in 1974. During this period, he also worked as an assistant to former Prime Minister Lester Pearson, who was then working at Carleton University's Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. In 1972, Hillmer joined the Directorate of History at Canada's Department of National Defence as a staff historian. Terry Copp
John Terry Copp (born 1938) is a Canadian military historian and Professor Emeritus at Wilfrid Laurier University and is the co-founder and former Director of the Laurier Centre for the Study of Canada. As of 2024, Copp is a member of the Order of Canada. Copp was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. Desmond Morton (historian)
Desmond Dillon Paul Morton (1937–2019) was a Canadian historian and political advisor who specialized in the history of the Canadian military, as well as the history of Canadian political and industrial relations. Life and career Born on September 10, 1937, in Calgary, Alberta, Morton was the son of a Brigadier General, and the grandson of General Sir William Dillon Otter. A Rhodes Scholar at Keble College, Oxford, Morton graduated from the Collège militaire royal de St-Jean, the Royal Military College of Canada, and the London School of Economics. He received his doctorate from the University of London. He spent ten years in the Canadian Army (1954–1964 retiring as a Captain) prior to beginning his teaching career. Tim Cook (historian)
Tim Cook (born 1971) is a Canadian military historian and author. Cook is an historian at the Canadian War Museum and the author of thirteen books about the military history of Canada. Having written extensively about World War I, Cook's focus shifted to Canada's involvement in World War II with the 2014 publication of the first volume in a two-volume series chronicling Canada's role in that war. He is a two-time recipient (2000 and 2015) of the C.P. Stacey Prize, a two-time recipient of the J.W. Dafoe Book Prize, and a three-time winner of the Ottawa Book Prize. Roger Sarty
Roger Sarty (born 27 September 1952 in City of Halifax, Halifax, Nova Scotia) is among Canada's leading historians, specializing in the history of Canada's Navy and coastal defence. Early life and education Sarty was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia before moving to Toronto in 1965. Marc Milner
Joseph Marc Milner (born 12 April 1954) is a Canadian military and naval historian, author of several books including one novel. He is Director of the Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society at the University of New Brunswick. Carman Miller
Carman Irwin Miller (born 1940) is a military historian and former Dean of Arts at McGill University in Montreal. Miller was born in Moser River, Nova Scotia, the son of Marie Evangeline and Irwin Charles Miller. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960 and a Bachelor of Education degree in 1961 from Acadia University. Miller received a Master of Arts degree in 1964 from Dalhousie University and a Ph.D. in 1970 from the University of London.
