Club de Fútbol Torreón was a Mexican football team that played in the Primera División de México and in the Segunda División de México. It was based in the city of Torreón, Coahuila. History The club was founded in 1960. It was formed from the old club ''El Cataluña'' who played in the Segunda División de México. They played with that name for 3 years then changed its name to Torreón. The club was promoted in the 1968–1969 season and coached by the Peruvian Grimaldo González. The club was moved to Guadalajara, Jalisco after the 1973-1974 season and renamed as Club Deportivo Leones Negros de la Universidad de Guadalajara. Estadio Corona (1970)
The Corona Stadium (the name comes from the beer brand) was one of the smallest football stadiums in Mexico having only capacity for 20,100 seats. It was located in the city of Torreón, Coahuila. This sport facility was used mostly for football games and was the home of the club Santos Laguna. This stadium did not host any FIFA World Cup games because of its limited size and facilities. In 2004, this stadium hosted several games of the Copa Libertadores. The stadium was demolished on 2 November 2009. Club Santos Laguna S.A. de C.V., simply known as Santos Laguna or Santos, is a Mexican professional football club based in Torreón, Coahuila. The club competes in Liga MX, the top division of Mexican football. Founded in 1983 as Club Santos IMSS Laguna by the Mexican Social Security Institute of the state of Durango, and the following year it changed to its current name. Santos Laguna reached Mexico's top division after buying Ángeles de Puebla. The club debuted in first division in the 1988–89 season. Domestically, Santos Laguna has won 6 Liga MX championships, as well as 1 Copa MX and 1 Campeón de Campeones cup. Club de Fútbol Laguna A.C. (nicknamed La Ola Verde) is a football club. The club played in the Mexican football league system Primera División de México and it was based in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico. History Club de Fútbol Laguna A.C. was founded in 1953 that same year the club join the Segunda División Profesional where they played from 1953 to 1967. It was in 1968 when the club was promoted to the Primera División de México with Juan Ángel "Pito" Pérez coaching the club, who took the place of the regulated Atletico Morelia. The club was merely a contender in the first division but gave the people of the region a chance to see first division action. Copa MX, also known as Copa Corona MX for sponsorship reasons, was an association football competition in Mexico and the domestic cup tournament for clubs at the highest and second levels of Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Copa México (1942–1963, 1970–1997) and also as Copa Presidente (1963–1970), the first season of the professional era was held in 1942–43. The cup tournament was not held in several years (1976–1988, 1992–1994, 1997–2012) and currently the competition has been paused since the 2019–20 edition. Club Deportivo Leones Negros de la Universidad de Guadalajara, abbreviated and simply known as Leones Negros UdeG, is a Mexican professional football club based in Guadalajara, Jalisco, that currently plays in Liga de Expansión MX, the second level division of Mexican football. Torreón () is a city and seat of Torreón Municipality in the Mexico, Mexican States of Mexico, state of Coahuila. The city's population is 720,848 inhabitants, making it the second largest city in the state of Coahuila. Also Torreón is part of the Comarca Lagunera metropolitan area. Grimaldo González
Grimaldo González (22 September 1922 – 14 February 2007) was a professional football player and manager who spent most of his career in the Mexican Primera División. Playing career Born in Lima, González played as a forward. In 1946, he moved to Mexico to play for ADO de Orizaba. He joined Veracruz the following season, but would enjoy his greatest success with Tampico by winning the 1952–53 season championship. Tampico clinched the title in the penultimate round, winning 1–0 against Club América with González scoring the winning goal. Managerial career After he retired from playing, González became a football coach. He managed Tampico, Torreón, Tigres de la UANL and Ciudad Madero. He would lead Torreón, Tigres and Ciudad Madero to promotions to the Mexican Primera División.
