Bronfman Family
The Bronfman family is a Canadian family, known for its extensive business holdings. It owes its initial fame to Samuel Bronfman (1889–1971), the most influential Canadian Jew of the mid-20th century, who made a fortune in the alcoholic distilled beverage business during American prohibition, including the sale of liquor through organized crime, through founding the Seagram Company, and who later became president of the Canadian Jewish Congress (1939–62). The family is of Russian-Jewish ancestry; the patriarch, Yechiel (Ekiel) Bronfman, was originally a tobacco farmer from Bessarabia. Samuel Bronfman
Samuel Bronfman, (February 27, 1889 – July 10, 1971) was a Canadian businessman, philanthropist, and member of the Canadian Bronfman family. He founded Distillers Corporation Limited and purchased the Seagram Company, that became the world’s largest liquor distilling firm. Biography Samuel Bronfman was born onboard ship (en route to Canada) either in Soroki or in Otaci, Soroca uyezd, Bessarabia, then part of the Russian Empire (present-day Moldova), one of eight children of Mindel and Yechiel Bronfman. Benjamin Bronfman
Benjamin Zachary Bronfman (born August 6, 1982) is an American businessman and musician. Bronfman is a founding partner and board member of Global Thermostat, a direct air capture company that removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Early life Benjamin Zachary Bronfman was born on August 6, 1982, in New York City to Black American actress Sherry Brewer Bronfman and Edgar Bronfman Jr., former chief executive officer of Warner Music Group. He has two sisters, Hannah and Vanessa. Bronfman lived in London briefly when his father was managing director of Seagram Distilleries Europe. Marjorie Blankstein
Marjorie B. Blankstein, (née Rady; born 1929) is a fundraiser, community activist and volunteer. Through her mother Rose, she is a member of the wealthy Bronfman family and a niece of Samuel Bronfman. Blankstein was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She attended Grosvenor, Robert H. Smith and Kelvin High schools. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950. She obtained her Master of Social Work degree in 1952. After her graduation, she married architect Morley Blankstein. She has three sons, two daughters and seven grandchildren. She has been very active in the community, and currently serves as a board member of the Rady Jewish Community Centre and the Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice. Peter Bronfman
Peter Frederick Bronfman OC (October 2, 1929 – December 1, 1996) was a Canadian businessman and entrepreneur, born in Montreal, and member of the Toronto branch of Canada's wealthy Bronfman family. He attended Selwyn House School in Montreal and the elite Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, one of the oldest prep schools in America, and received his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1952. Career Peter Frederick Bronfman was born in Montreal in 1929, a son of Allan Bronfman and nephew of Samuel Bronfman, the founder of the Seagram Company.
