Brisbane Roar FC, Brisbane Roar Football Club, an association football club based in Milton, Queensland, Milton, Brisbane, founded in 2005 as Queensland Roar. They became the first Queensland member admitted into the A-League Men in 2005 after a break off with other associated club Queensland Lions FC, Queensland Lions. Matt Smith (soccer, Born 1982)
Matthew Terence Smith (born 14 October 1982) is a soccer manager and former player, he is the currently assistant coach of Malaysia. Born in England, Smith emigrated to Australia where he started his professional soccer career with North Queensland Fury during the 2009-10 A-League season and then signed a two-year contract with Brisbane Roar at the start of the A-League 2010–11 season. Stuart McLaren (born 28 August 1975) is a Scottish-Australian football player and coach, who is assistant coach for the Northern Ireland national women's team. Biography Queensland Roar coach Miron Bleiberg signed McLaren on a short-term contract in early November 2005. He was signed due to Josh McCloughlan's injury, playing as a defender as he did when he was a former player-coach with the Brisbane Strikers in the NSL. He was then signed as a permanent player and regularly played in the starting eleven, occasionally captaining the Queensland Roar. Chad Gibson (born 19 June 1976) is a former professional footballer. Biography Chad Gibson is from Sydney, Australia, with parents of South African origin who migrated to Australia during Apartheid due to racial policies, which legally forbid their relationship. Massimo Murdocca
Massimo Murdocca (born 2 September 1984) is an Australian retired professional soccer player who last played as a right or central midfielder for National Premier Leagues club Nunawading City FC. Club career Before joining Brisbane Roar, Murdocca played for South Melbourne and Carlton SC in the now defunct National Soccer League, and for Fawkner Blues in the Victorian Premier League. Murdocca had a hugely successful spell with the Roar, making 182 appearances and scoring four goals over eight seasons from 2005 to 2013. Matthew Graham McKay (born 11 January 1983) is a retired Australian professional footballer who last played for Australian A-League club Brisbane Roar, and previously with the Australian national team. McKay currently holds the club's record for league appearances, 272. McKay played for Brisbane Roar since their first season in the A-League, and was their club captain up until the 2010–11 season, in which he led Brisbane to their first ever A-League championship and premiership. Following this triumphant victory McKay sought a new challenge in the first division of the Scottish Premiership with Rangers. 2005 Australian Club World Championship Qualifying Tournament
The 2005 Australian Club World Championship Qualifying Tournament was as association football knock-out competition to determine the Australian entrant into the 2005 OFC Club Championship. The tournament consisted of seven teams, being the teams competing in the inaugural A-League season in 2005–06, with the exception of New Zealand Knights. A standalone tournament was necessary to determine to determine Australia's Oceania Club Championship entrant for the year as there had yet to be any competitive matches for the new A-League clubs. It was to be a one-off competition, with Australia joining the Asian Football Confederation from 2006 onwards, and future continental qualification places determined by teams' performances in the A-League.
