Berkley Bedell
Berkley Warren Bedell (March 5, 1921 – December 7, 2019) was an American Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party politician and businessman who served as the United States House of Representatives, U.S. representative for Iowa's 6th congressional district from 1975 to 1987. After starting a successful business in his youth, Berkley (fishing), Berkley Fly Co., he ran for Congress in 1972, but was defeated by incumbent Wiley Mayne. In 1974 however, Bedell beat Mayne and was elected to the U.S. House. He was known for his support of representative democracy and his Populism, populist style. For example, he would hold town halls and let constituents vote on motions to decide what he would do in Congress on their behalf and these meetings helped Bedell understand the problems of his constituents; as a result, he backed issues that were important to his farming constituency, such as waterway usage fees and production constraints. Berkley, Somerset
Berkley is a dispersed settlement and civil parish in Somerset, England. According to the 2011 census the parish had a population of 344. It lies on the north-east edge of the town of Frome, St Mary's church being about from the centre of Frome. The parish includes the hamlets of Oldford, Berkley Marsh and Standerwick, and its eastern boundary is also the county boundary with Wiltshire. Geography and transport The parish church, Berkley House and the primary school are towards the south-east of the parish, and from there the hamlet of Berkley Marsh is about 600m to the west. Oldford hamlet is in the far west of the parish, straddling the boundary with Selwood parish; the River Frome is a little further west. The A361 road from Trowbridge and Beckington used to descend Oldford Hill to reach Frome town centre, but in the late 20th century it was diverted south across the parish to avoid Oldford and bypass Frome to the east. Berkeley ( ) is a market town and civil parishes in England, civil parish in the Stroud (district), Stroud District in Gloucestershire, England. It lies in the Vale of Berkeley between the east bank of the River Severn and the M5 motorway. Berkley Books is an American imprint founded in 1955 by Charles Byrne and Frederic Klein owned by the Penguin Group unit of Penguin Random House. It was founded as "Chic News Company" by Charles Byrne and Frederick Klein, who had worked for Avon; they quickly renamed it Berkley Publishing Co.
