Aljunied
Aljunied ( ) is a suburban area located in the central part of the city-state of Singapore. Named after Aljunied Road, it was formerly agricultural land which has since been heavily urbanised and presently comprises a variety of land uses. Today, Aljunied is a bustling neighbourhood with HDB flats with amenities like shops, schools, parks and recreational facilities, as well as several traditional Singaporean shophouses. Etymology Syed Sharif Omar bin Ali Al Junied owned large tracts of agricultural land in the area. In Palembang, he established a business after migrating from his hometown in Tarim, Yemen Syed Omar came from the well-respected Arab family who were descendants of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Aljunied Group Representation Constituency
The Aljunied Group Representation Constituency is a five-member group representation constituency (GRC) in the north-eastern and eastern region of Singapore. It consists of a large part of Hougang (excluding Hougang SMC), Paya Lebar, Serangoon Gardens, the southern half of Serangoon North as well as a portion of Bedok. The GRC consists of five divisions: Eunos, Bedok Reservoir-Punggol, Kaki Bukit, Serangoon and Paya Lebar. The current Members of Parliament are Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim, Gerald Giam, Fadli Fawzi and Kenneth Tiong from the Workers' Party (WP). Aljunied MRT Station
Aljunied MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East West line (EWL) in Geylang, Singapore. Operated by SMRT Trains, the station serves the eponymous Aljunied subzone of Geylang. Other nearby landmarks include Geylang East Public Library and Geylang Methodist Primary and Secondary School. Like other stations of the eastern part of the East–West line, the station has a domed roof design. It is mostly wheelchair accessible and has bicycle facilities. First announced in May 1982, it was to be constructed as part of Phase II of the MRT system. The station opened on 4 November 1989 as part of the MRT eastern line extension to Tanah Merah station. Geylang
Geylang () is a planning area and township located on the eastern fringe of the Central Region of Singapore, bordering Hougang and Toa Payoh in the north, Marine Parade in the south, Bedok in the east, and Kallang in the west. Geylang is previously known as a red-light district, particularly the areas along Geylang Road. Today only 3-4 units remain for brothels and street walkers are hard to come by.
