Ricardo Valdez Valentine Jr. (born June 24, 1992), known professionally as 6lack (stylized as 6LACK, pronounced "black"), is an American R&B singer and songwriter. Born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, he gained recognition following the release of his 2016 single " Prblms", which marked his first entry on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. He signed with Love Renaissance, an imprint of Interscope Records to release his debut studio album, ''Free 6lack'' (2016), which was nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards and received platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Two years later, he released his second studio album ''East Atlanta Love Letter'' (2018), which peaked at number three on the ''Billboard'' 200. The Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album is an honor presented at the Grammy Awards to recording artists for high quality works on albums in the urban contemporary subgenre within the R&B field. Honors in several categories are presented at the ceremony annually by the Recording Academy of the United States to "honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position". This category was one of the three newly created categories for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards as Best Urban Contemporary Album. "Know My Rights" is a song by American singer 6lack, featuring American rapper Lil Baby. It was released on June 26, 2020, as the third single off 6lack's ''6pc Hot EP'', released the same day. The track was produced by London Cyr and Fwdslxsh, who also executive-produced ''6pc Hot EP''. Background and composition Canadian producer London Cyr explained to Genius how the song came about: "Basically, my boy Fwdslxsh, he executive produced the EP, he's a producer from London. He was like, 'Yo, come to the studio we are going to work on some ideas for 6lack'. I was like alright and then we made the beat the day Kobe ryantdied". Cyr did the melody, while Fwdslxsh "pulled it up and did a little drum idea on it" - 808s and hi-hats. ''6pc Hot EP'' is the first extended play by American singer 6lack. It was released on June 26, 2020, through LVRN and Interscope Records. Production was handled by twelve record producers, including DJ Battlecat, Nick Mira, Stwo, Timbaland, Canadian producer London Cyr, and British producer Fwdslxsh, the latter two of whom executive-produced the EP.
