Jardin Rosa Mir
The Jardin Rosa Mir (English: Rosa Mir Garden) is a garden located in the center of La Croix-Rousse quarter in the 4th arrondissement of Lyon, and created by Jules Senis. It is housed in a courtyard of the building at No. 83 Grande Rue de la Croix-Rousse. It can be accessed through a path located at No. 87 in the same street. History This garden was created by Jules Senis (1913-1983), a tiler and bricklayer artisan, Spanish anarchist who had fled to France to escape the Spanish Civil War. He was diagnosed with cancer, but recovered after several years in hospital. During his illness, he had vowed to build a garden if he managed to leave the hospital, and thus created the garden Rosa Mir, to which he devoted the last twenty-five years of his life. The Lyon trolleybus system () is part of the public transport network of the city and '' commune'' of Lyon, France. Opened in 1935, it combines with the Lyon Metro, the Lyon tramway network and Lyon's urban motorbus network to form an integrated system. Lyon was one of the first cities in France to utilize trolleybuses. It is the ' ("capital of the French trolleybus"). In 1961, the Lyon trolleybus system had the largest number of trolleybuses ever to operate simultaneously in France (370 vehicles). In the 21st century, it has been a leader in the development of new trolley buses. The Lyon Metro (, ) is a rapid transit system serving Lyon Metropolis, France. First opened in 1974, it currently consists of four lines, serving 42 stations and comprising of route. Part of the Transports en Commun Lyonnais (TCL) system of public transport, it is supported by two funiculars and a tramway network. Unlike other French metro systems, but like RER and other SNCF services, Lyon Metro trains run on the left. Canut
The canuts () were Lyonnais silk workers, often working on Jacquard looms. They were primarily found in the Croix-Rousse neighbourhood of Lyon in the 19th century. Although the term generally refers to Lyonnais silk workers, silk workers in the nearby commune of l'Arbresle are also called canuts. Etymology The word canut may come from an abbreviation of the French expression "Voici les cannes nues!" (''Look at those bare canes!''), as canes without any charms or ribbons were considered a sign of poverty. It may equally well come from the word ''canette'' ('' spool'') referring to the spool on which the silk was kept prior to being used. A town crier, also called a bellman, is an officer of a royal court or public authority who makes public pronouncements as required. Duties and functions The town crier was used to make public announcements in the streets. Rue Dumenge
The Rue Dumenge is a street located in the 4th arrondissement of Lyon, in the quarter of La Croix-Rousse. It begins on the Rue du Mail, crosses the Rue du Pavillon and the Rue de Belfort and ends on the Rue Dumont-d'Urville. The street is served by a metro station of the line C and a velo'v station. History In the early nineteenth century, Pierre-Gabriel Dumenge owned some lands in La Croix-Rousse. He yielded to the city of Lyon some of them which were necessary to align the street. In 1812, on a two-acre field, he built an estate called Clos Dumenge, which provided building-workshops specially designed for weavers (the canuts). They are particularly bright and high in order to house the looms.
