2019 Netball Superleague Season
The 2019 Netball Superleague season was the fourteenth season of the Netball Superleague, the elite domestic netball competition in the United Kingdom. The season commenced on 5 January 2019. Manchester Thunder were the champions and defeated Wasps Netball in the Grand Final at the Copper Box Arena. The Thunder's victory ended Wasps' back-to-back run of titles and was their third championship in the competition. Overview Teams At the end of the previous season, England Netball announced the withdrawal of Team Northumbria (netball), Team Northumbria from the competition. The organisation revealed a capital-based team (the London Pulse) would take their place, thereby ensuring the league remained at 10 teams. Netball Superleague
The Netball Super League is an elite netball league in the United Kingdom. The league is organised by England Netball but features teams based in Netball in England, England, Netball in Wales, Wales and previously Netball in Scotland, Scotland. The Super League commenced at the 2005–06 Netball Superleague season, 2005–06 season, replacing the AENA Super Cup, Super Cup as the elite netball competition in England. From 2016 Netball Superleague season, 2016-21 the league was Sponsor (commercial), sponsored by VitalityHealth and, as a result, Naming rights, known as the Vitality Netball Super League. Surrey Storm
Surrey Storm was an English netball team based at the University of Surrey. Their senior team played in the Netball Super League between 2005 and 2024. Between 2001 and 2005 they played in the Super Cup as London Hurricanes. After forming a partnership with Brunel University London, they became the Brunel Hurricanes. In 2005–06 they were founder members of the new Netball Super League. Before the 2009–10 Netball Super League season, they relocated to the University of Surrey and became Surrey Storm. They were Super League champions in 2015 and 2016. In 2023, England Netball announced plans to relaunch the Netball Super League in 2025, with an aim to professionalise the league. Sirens Netball
Strathclyde Sirens are a Scottish netball team based in Glasgow. Since 2017 their senior team has played in the Netball Superleague. Sirens also played in the 2018 Netball New Zealand Super Club tournament. They were originally known as the Scottish Sirens. In 2017 they became the UWS Sirens as a result of a sponsorship arrangement with the University of the West of Scotland. Severn Stars
Severn Stars are an netball in England, English netball team based at the University of Worcester. The team is named after the River Severn, which runs through Worcester, England, Worcester and Gloucester, the original home cities of the two universities. Severn Stars were formed in 2016 in England, 2016 and since 2017 Netball Superleague season, 2017 their senior team has played in the Netball Superleague. The franchise disbanded at the end of the 2024 season after it was not offered a contract in the relaunched Netball Superleague. Hatfield, Hertfordshire
Hatfield is a town and civil parish in Hertfordshire, England, in the borough of Welwyn Hatfield. It had a population of 29,616 in 2001, 39,201 at the 2011 census, and 41,265 at the 2021 census. Saracens Mavericks
London Mavericks is an English netball team based at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield. Their senior team plays in the Netball Super League where they were a founding member in 2005–06. They are two time Super League champions in 2007–08 and 2011. Due to various sponsorship deals and partnership arrangements, the team has played under several different 'Mavericks' names. They adopted their current name ahead of the 2025 season.
