2012 U.S. Open Cup Qualification
The 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament proper features teams from all five tiers of men's soccer of the American Soccer Pyramid. For the 2012 tournament, all American-based teams from the top two tiers, Major League Soccer and the North American Soccer League, will earns berths into the third and second round propers of the tournament, respectively. Thus making it the first time in six years that all first and second division teams automatically qualify into the tournament. For the third, fourth and fifth tiers of the pyramid, a series of qualification and state tournaments are held to determine the berths into the tournament. Most states began their qualification in October or November 2011 and will conclude in March 2012. These teams, will complete the 64 team field in the U.S. Open Cup. American Soccer Pyramid
The United States soccer league system is a series of professional and amateur association football, soccer leagues based, in whole or in part, in the United States. Although sometimes called the American soccer pyramid, teams and leagues are not linked by a system of promotion and relegation as is common in other countries. Instead, the United States Soccer Federation (USSF or U.S. Soccer) defines professional leagues in three levels, called divisions, with all other leagues sanctioned by the USSF not having an official designated level or division. For practical and historical reasons, some teams from Bermuda, Canada, and Puerto Rico (considered a separate country by FIFA) can also compete in these leagues. Laredo Heat Soccer Club is an American soccer team based in Laredo, Texas. The team competes in USL League Two, the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, as a member of the Lone Star Division. The team plays its home games at the PEG Energy Stadium, where they have played since 2024. The team's colors are red, black and white. Croatian Eagles
Croatian Eagles Soccer Club () is an American soccer team that plays in the United Premier Soccer League. The club was established in 1922 by Croatian Americans, and is one of the oldest continuously run soccer clubs in North America. According to legend, the club was originally going to be named "NK Hrvatski Sokole" but the founders of the club were not able to translate "Sokole". The club's biggest rivals are the United Serbians Soccer Club and Milwaukee Bavarian SC. The club participated in the 2006 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They were champs of the Wisconsin Adult Soccer Association's Challenge Cup five times, from 1999 to 2003. KC Athletics is an American amateur soccer team based in Kansas City, Missouri, United States. Founded in 2001, the team plays in Region II of the United States Adult Soccer Association, a network of amateur leagues at the fifth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. The team's colors are white and sky blue. History Founded in 2001 as a merger of the Kansas Legends Soccer Club and the Kansas City Football Club, the KC Athletics won regionals in its first year competing in the Snickers Nationals, and ended up finishing third nationally in the competition. After just one season, the team left the league due to financial reasons. They continue to play in the USASA.
