2009 Race Of Champions
The 2009 Race of Champions was the 22nd running of the motorsport event, on November 3–4, 2009 at the Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, China. It was the first time that the event took place outside of Europe and Africa. It was the first international sports event to be held in the "Bird's Nest" stadium since the 2008 Summer Olympics. The event was moved from a weekend to a midweek slot for the first time. The RoC Nations Cup was held on Tuesday, November 3, just two days after the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the climax of the 2009 Formula One season at the Yas Marina Circuit, with the Driver's Cup being contested on Wednesday 4, November. The new dates affected the United States and Australia most, since it meant drivers from those countries' popular saloon-car series ( V8 Supercar and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series) could not take part. 1989 Lombard RAC Rally
1989 was a turning point in political history with the "Revolutions of 1989" which ended communism in Eastern Bloc of Europe, starting in Poland and Hungary, with experiments in power-sharing coming to a head with the opening of the Berlin Wall in November, the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia and the overthrow of the communist dictatorship in Romania in December; the movement ended in December 1991 with the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Revolutions against communist governments in Eastern Europe mainly succeeded, but the year also saw the suppression by the Chinese government of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing. Ricardo Londoño
Ricardo Londoño Bridge (8 August 1949 – 18 July 2009) was a racing driver from Colombia. He had an unremarkable international career apart from his one attempt at Formula One in the 1981 Brazilian Grand Prix with Ensign. Londoño was the first racing driver from Colombia to participate in a Formula One race weekend. Born in Medellín, he raced in stock car and motorcycle speed championships until the 1970s and claimed many victories. Londoño left for the United States in 1979 and took part in IMSA GT Championship races. The following year, he placed seventh overall in the 24 Hours of Daytona and twelfth in the Can-Am standings. Londoño received support from coffee growing and drug trafficking and this enabled him to compete in the season-closing British Formula One Championship at Silverstone where he finished seventh. Harry Källström
Harry Källström (30 June 1939 – 13 July 2009), nicknamed "Sputnik" , was a Swedish professional rally driver who debuted in 1957 and competed in the World Rally Championship in the 1970s. Prior to the forming of the WRC, Källström won the RAC Rally in a Lancia Fulvia 1.6 Coupé HF in 1969 and 1970. In 1969, he also captured the European Rally Championship title. Partnered with Claes-Göran Andersson, and driving a Datsun 160J, he took his only World Rally Championship victory at the 1976 Acropolis Rally Greece. At the same rally and in the same car, he finished third in 1977 and 1979. His fourth podium appearance in the world championship was a second place at the 1973 Safari Rally in a Datsun 1800 SSS. Anthony Francis O'Connell Maggs (9 February 1937 – 2 June 2009) was a South African racing driver, who competed in Formula One from to . Maggs participated in 27 World Championship Grands Prix, debuting at the 1961 British Grand Prix. He achieved three podiums, and scored a total of 26 championship points.
