Music Of Norway
Much has been learned about early music in Norway from physical artifacts found during archaeological digs. These include instruments such as the lur. Viking and medieval sagas also describe musical activity, as do the accounts of priests and pilgrims from all over Europe coming to visit St. Olav's shrine, St Olav's grave in Trondheim. In the later part of the 19th century, Norway experienced economic growth leading to greater industrialization and urbanization. More music was made in the cities, and opera performances and symphony concerts were considered to be of high standards. In this era both prominent composers (like Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen) and performers combined the European traditions with Norwegian tones. The import of music and musicians for dance and entertainment grew, and this continued in the 20th century, even more so when Phonograph record, gramophone records and radio became common. Sigrid (singer)
Sigrid Solbakk Raabe (born 5 September 1996), known professionally as Sigrid, is a Norwegian singer and songwriter. She has released two studio albums, ''Sucker Punch'' (2019) and '' How to Let Go'' (2022), both of which reached the top of the charts in Norway as well as reaching the top 5 in the United Kingdom. She has also released three EPs. Early life Sigrid Solbakk Raabe was born in Ålesund to Håkon Raabe and Anette Sølberg Solbakk on 5 September 1996. She has two older siblings, a brother, Tellef, who is also a musician, and a sister, Johanne. At her first performance, in kindergarten, she had to be pulled off the stage after crying. Alexandra Rotan
Alexandra Rotan (born 29 June 1996) is a Norwegian singer. Rotan began her career as a child singer, becoming a superfinalist in Melodi Grand Prix Junior 2010 with the song "Det vi vil". She later joined the supergroup KEiiNO in 2018, and as part of the group represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song " Spirit in the Sky", placing sixth. She had previously competed in Melodi Grand Prix 2018 in a duet with Stella Mwangi, placing third. Biography Rotan competed in MGPjr 2010 with the song "Det vi vil" ("What we want"), where she reached the superfinal, and in Melodi Grand Prix 2018 along with Stella Mwangi performing the song "You Got Me", which came third. Aurora Aksnes (; born 15 June 1996), known simply as Aurora (stylized in all capital letters), is a Norwegian singer, songwriter and record producer. Nora Foss al-Jabri () (born 29 January 1996) is a Norwegian singer. Early life She was born to an Iraqi father and a Norwegian mother in Gjøvik, Norway. She started singing when she was eight years old and took singing lessons regularly. Career She became known in Norway because of her version of Leonard Cohen's " Hallelujah". At first it got some radio play but the big success came after her sister posted a video in a singing contest on the Norwegian video site "snutter10". The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' (, abbreviated ''SNL'') is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. It has several subdivisions, including the Norsk biografisk leksikon. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with up to 3.5 million unique visitors per month. Paper editions (1978–2007) The ''SNL'' was created in 1978, when the two publishing houses Aschehoug and Gyldendal merged their encyclopedias and created the company Kunnskapsforlaget. Arne Hendriksen
Arne Olav Weiglin Hendriksen (1 January 1911 – 5 November 1996) was a Norwegian-Swedish ceramic artist and opera singer (tenor). Biography Hendriksen was born in Berlin, Germany. He was trained as a ceramic artist, but had a talent for singing. After studying with Karl Aagard Østvig (1889–1968), he made his debut at Christiania (now Oslo) in 1938. Engaged at the National Theatre in 1940, he worked at Den Nationale Scene in Bergen from 1942 to 1946, before settling in Sweden, where he sang some forty roles at the Stockholm Opera from 1947 to 1964. These included his debut Nemorino and Mozart roles, leading onto Italian Bel canto and Herod in ''Salome''. He appeared at times at the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet and enjoyed success as the main character in ''The Tales of Hoffmann'' in 1954, as well as in other productions. Robert Levin (Norwegian Pianist)
Robert Levin (6 June 191229 October 1996) was a Norwegian classical pianist and composer. Although he was an accomplished solo pianist and composer, Levin received international acclaim for his work as an accompanist with several of the world's most celebrated vocal and instrumental performers. Background Levin was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. He grew up in the immigrant neighborhood in Grünerløkka, the child of David Levin (1882–1936) and Marie Scheer (1885–1954). Both were Jewish refugees from Lithuania who had immigrated in 1905. Levin's father supported his family through various means, including peddling sewing notions and carting coal. Levin caught interest in the piano when he was four and a half years old, at his grandmother's home. By the time he was five, he had taught himself well enough for his first public performance. Per Asplin
Per Asplin (10 August 1928 – 9 October 1996) was a Norwegian-Danish pianist, singer, composer and actor, born in Tønsberg. He co-starred in a handful of films as well as participating in Melodi Grand Prix five times in the 1960s. He is still probably best remembered as a member of the Norwegian vocal group The Monn Keys and for creating the annual Christmas show ''Putti Plutti Pott and Santa's Beard''. He died in Oslo.
