Music Of Norway
Much has been learned about early music in Norway from physical artifacts found during archaeological digs. These include instruments such as the lur. Viking and medieval sagas also describe musical activity, as do the accounts of priests and pilgrims from all over Europe coming to visit St. Olav's shrine, St Olav's grave in Trondheim. In the later part of the 19th century, Norway experienced economic growth leading to greater industrialization and urbanization. More music was made in the cities, and opera performances and symphony concerts were considered to be of high standards. In this era both prominent composers (like Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen) and performers combined the European traditions with Norwegian tones. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' (, abbreviated ''SNL'') is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. It has several subdivisions, including the Norsk biografisk leksikon. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with up to 3.5 million unique visitors per month. Paper editions (1978–2007) The ''SNL'' was created in 1978, when the two publishing houses Aschehoug and Gyldendal merged their encyclopedias and created the company Kunnskapsforlaget. Up until 1978 the two publishing houses of Aschehoug and Gyldendal, Norway's two largest, had published ' and ', respectively. The respective first editions were published in 1906–1913 (Aschehoug) and 1933–1934 (Gyldendal). Egil Monn-Iversen
Egil Ragnar Monn-Iversen (14 April 1928 – 7 July 2017) was a Norwegian musician, one of the most influential modern composers in Norway. He has had many important roles in Norwegian music, film, opera, television, comedy and theater. For some time he had so much influence in Norwegian culture that he got the nickname ''The Godfather'', even though he always considered himself a down-to-earth musician. Monn-Iversen owned a film production company, a record label, and an agency for musical artists, he was the founder of the vocal group The Monn Keys, he was the CEO at the Chat Noir theatre, chairman at The Norwegian Opera and from the 1960s until his death in 2017 worked in NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) and Det norske teatret (The Norwegian Theatre). is the largest Norwegian biographical encyclopedia. It is part of the '' Great Norwegian Encyclopedia''. Origin The first print edition (NBL1) was issued between 1923 and 1983; it included 19 volumes and 5,100 articles. Per Asplin
Per Asplin (10 August 1928 – 9 October 1996) was a Norwegian-Danish pianist, singer, composer and actor, born in Tønsberg. He co-starred in a handful of films as well as participating in Melodi Grand Prix five times in the 1960s. He is still probably best remembered as a member of the Norwegian vocal group The Monn Keys and for creating the annual Christmas show ''Putti Plutti Pott and Santa's Beard''. He died in Oslo. Alf Andersen (1928–1962)
Alf Andersen (25 November 1928 - 24 June 1962) was a Norwegian flautist from Notodden, acknowledged as the leading Norwegian flautist in his time and well known through broadcasting NRK and for his leading role in Norwegian Radio Orchestra where he was solo flutist of the orchestra from the start in 1946 until his death in 1962. Biography He studied the flute under Ørnulf Gulbransen. He was employee Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg for a period (1956), and over the years also a prominent chamber musician, often with pianists Ruth Lagesen or Kirsti Hjort. With oboist Tom Klausen he had a close working relationship. He remained true to Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Despite tempting offers from big orchestras abroad.
