Danish Television
Television in Denmark was Timeline of the introduction of television in countries, established in the 1950s and was run by a monopoly with only one channel available until the 1980s. History The first television broadcasts in Denmark started on 2 October 1951. These were carried out by the national radio broadcaster Danmarks Radio, Statsradiofonien and consisted of a one-hour broadcast three times per week. The broadcasts were initially limited to a few hundred homes in the capital area. Daily broadcasts started in 1954. With the opening of the Gladsaxe transmitter, most of Zealand (Denmark), Zealand could watch television. The entire country was covered in 1960 when the transmitter on Bornholm opened. Statsradiofonien was renamed Danmarks Radio (DR) in 1959. The first news programme, TV-Avisen, started in 1965. Denmark was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1987 with the song "", composed by Helge Engelbrecht, with lyrics by Jacob Jonia, and performed by Anne-Cathrine Herdorf supported by the group Bandjo. The Danish participating broadcaster, (DR), organised the 1987 in order to select its entry for the contest. Before Eurovision 1987 (DR) held the 1987 on 28 February at 20:15 CEST, hosted by Jørgen de Mylius at the Tivoli Concert Hall in Copenhagen. Ten songs took part with the winner being decided by voting from five regional juries in two rounds. Firstly the five lowest-placed songs were eliminated without full voting being revealed, then the remaining five were voted on again to give the winner. Other participants included past and future Danish representatives Dario Campeotto, Tommy Seebach, Birthe Kjær and Kirsten Siggaard of Hot Eyes. Eurovision Song Contest 1987
The Eurovision Song Contest 1987 was the 32nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Brussels, Belgium, following the country's victory at the with the song " J'aime la vie" by Sandra Kim. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (RTBF), the contest was held at the Centenary Palace on 9 May 1987 (also Europe Day) and hosted by French-Belgian singer Viktor Lazlo. Twenty-two countries took part in the contest with and returning to the competition after their absences the previous year. This set the record for the highest number of competing countries up until that point. The winner was with the song " Hold Me Now" by Johnny Logan, who had also won the contest. Dansk Melodi Grand Prix
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (), also known as Melodi Grand Prix or simply DMGP, is an annual music competition organised by the Danish public broadcaster DR since 1957, which determines for the Eurovision Song Contest. The festival has produced three Eurovision winners and fourteen top-five placings. History With the introduction of a semi-final at the 2004 contest, and due to Denmark's absence from the 2003 contest, Denmark's 2004 representative, Tomas Thordarson, had to take part in the semi-final. His song, " Shame on You" did not reach the final, finishing 13th in a field of 22 contestants. In 2005, DR made a bold step for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. Artists were allowed, for the first time ever, to sing in a language other than Danish. Many of the entries that year were sung in English; however, against the odds, the winning song was sung in Danish. Jakob Sveistrup won Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with his song "Tænder på dig". Tivoli Concert Hall
Tivoli Concert Hall () is a 1,660-capacity concert hall at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark. The building, which was designed by Frits Schlegel and Hans Hansen, was built between 1954 and 1956. The concert hall is used for classical music (e.g. Tivoli Symphony Orchestra), Broadway musicals, and jazz musicians. History The hall used to host pop and rock concerts. Esben Bjerre Hansen (born 8 February 1987 in Sejs, Silkeborg) is a Danish radio and television host, best known for his job as radio host in the popular radio programme Monte Carlo at DR P3 along with his co-host Peter Falktoft.
