Bernardino Butinone
Bernardino Butinone (1435 or 1436 – c. 1507 or 1508) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance, active mainly around Milan. Born in Treviglio, Lombardy, he was the son of Jacopo da Treviglio, and also known as ''Bernardo da Treviglio''. A pupil of Vincenzo Foppa, he was tutor of Bramantino and collaborated with Bernardo Zenale. Others claimed he trained with Vincenzo Civerchio, with whom he worked in Milan.M. Farquhar From 1491 to 1493 they executed the vault of the Grifi Chapel in San Pietro in Gessate in Milan. Their masterwork is the polyptych of San Martino in Treviglio, which was commissioned in 1485. Butinone's most appealing works are a series of small panels he painted depicting the life of Christ, which are now dispersed in various collections. Finding In The Temple
The Finding in the Temple, also called Christ among the Doctors or the Disputation (the usual names in art), was an episode in the early life of Jesus depicted in chapter 2 of the Gospel of Luke. It is the only event of the later childhood of Jesus mentioned in a gospel. Gospel account The episode is described in . Santa Maria Delle Grazie (Milan)
Santa Maria delle Grazie ("Holy Mary of Grace") is a church and Dominican convent in Milan, northern Italy, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The convent contains the mural of ''The Last Supper'' by Leonardo da Vinci, which is in the refectory. History Duke of Milan Francesco I Sforza ordered the construction of a Dominican convent and church at the site of a prior chapel dedicated to the Marian devotion of St Mary of the Graces. The main architect, Guiniforte Solari, designed the convent (the Gothic nave), which was completed by 1469. Construction of the church took decades. Duke Ludovico Sforza decided to have the church serve as the Sforza family burial site, and rebuilt the cloister and the apse, both completed after 1490. San Pietro In Gessate
San Pietro in Gessate is a church in Milan, northern Italy. Built in the 15th century, it is a noteworthy example of Gothic architecture. Description The architect was either Guiniforte Solari or his son Pietro Antonio. The church has a nave and two aisles, with square-plan, groin vaulted spans, flanked by two rows of chapels. Instead of the traditional Gothic piers, the naves are separated by Corinthian columns in granite, the sole indication in the church of the contemporary humanist revolution started in Florence by Brunelleschi and others. San Pietro in Gessate is home to a series of paintings of the Renaissance in Lombardy. Artists who worked here include Giovanni Donato Montorfano, Bernardino Butinone and Bernardo Zenale.
