Belle Cooledge
Belle Cooledge (July 29, 1884 – November 9, 1955), also known as "Auntie Belle," was the first female mayor of Sacramento, California, and one of the founders of Sacramento City College, which was known as Sacramento Junior College when it opened in 1916, and became the first de facto president, though she never assumed the title. Biography Cooledge was born in Sutter Creek, California in 1884, to Walter Scott Cooledge and Belle McFarland. Cooledge and her mother were members of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Cooledge graduated from Sacramento High School in 1900. She attended U.C. Berkeley where she majored in chemistry and earned her master's degree in education. She began teaching in 1904 and started working at Sacramento High School in 1912 as a math teacher. Sutter Creek, California
Sutter Creek (formerly spelled Sutter's Creek and Suttercreek; formerly named Suttersville) is a city in Amador County, California, United States. The population was 2,501 at the 2010 census, up from 2,303 at the 2000 census. It is accessible via State Route 49. History The community takes its name from nearby Sutter Creek, which in turn has the name of early California developer John Sutter. Sutter's discovery of gold at nearby Coloma in January 1848 triggered the California Gold Rush. After all his workers left him to go on their own hunts for gold, Sutter moved to Mormon Island with a couple of hands. After about two weeks miners flooded the island, so Sutter and his hands left and returned to Sutter Creek. Land Park is a neighborhood in the city of Sacramento. Land Park consists of mainly single-family dwellings in the area between Interstate 5 to the west, Broadway to the north, Sutterville Road to the south and Freeport Blvd to the east. William Land Park is its namesake, a major city park south of Highway 50 and east of Interstate 5 in South Sacramento. It also contains the Sacramento Zoo along with the popular children's theme parks Funderland and Fairy Tale Town.
