Byssochlamys
''Byssochlamys'' is a former genus of fungi in the Trichocomaceae family, containing teleomorph forms of ''Paecilomyces''. Several species of the genus ''Byssochlamys'' were well known to be associated with food spoilage, especially acidic heat-processed foods. A health concern was the production of the mycotoxin patulin in fruit juices, as well as byssochlamic acid and mycophenolic acid. Taxonomy First described by Swedish botanist Richard Westling in 1909, it contained teleomorph forms of the genus ''Paecilomyces'', traditionally covering anamorphic forms. With the adaptation of the "one fungus : one name" rule, ''Byssochlamys'' is considered a synonym of ''Paecilomyces''. The database Mycobank lists 9 legitimate species names, most of which are now considered to belong in the genus ''Paecilomyces ''Paecilomyces'' is a genus of fungi. Paecilomyces Variotii
''Paecilomyces variotii'', also known by the name ''Byssochlamys spectabilis'' for the sexual state, is a common environmental mold from the Phylum Ascomycota (Family Thermoascaceae). It is widespread in the environment and can be found in composts, soils and wood, as well es a common environmental contaminant in indoor air and carpet dust. Ascospores of the sexual state of ''P. variotii'' (''B. spectabilis'') are strongly heat-resistant. As such the fungus is a common contaminant of heat-treated foods and juices. ''Paecilomyces variotii'' has been associated with a number of infective diseases of humans and animals. Taxonomy ''Paecilomyces variotii'' was first described by Georges Bainier in 1907, while its teleomorph was described in 1994 and ranked in ''Byssochlamys''. ''P. variotii'' is closely related to '' P. brunneolus'', '' P. formosus'', '' P. divaricatus'' and '' P. dactylethromorphus''. Patulin is an organic compound classified as a polyketide. It is named after the fungus from which it was isolated, '' Penicillium patulum''. It is a white powder soluble in acidic water and in organic solvents. Paecilomyces
''Paecilomyces'' is a genus of fungi. A number of species in this genus are plant pathogens. Several of the entomopathogenic fungi, entomopathogenic species, such as "''Paecilomyces fumosoroseus''" have now been placed in the genus ''Isaria'', in the order Hypocreales and family Cordycipitaceae. In 1974, R.A. Samson transferred the nematicide, nematicidal species ''Paecilomyces lilacinus'' to this genus. However, publications in the 2000s (decade) indicated that the genus ''Paecilomyces'' was not monophyletic, and the new genus ''Purpureocillium'' was created to hold the taxon which includes ''P. lilacinum'': with both parts of the name referring to the purple conidia produced by the fungus. Species Traditionally, ''Paecilomyces'' held strictly asexual species and later housed numerous anamorphic forms of fungi with their teleomorph described to a separate genus. From 41 described species in 2000 and over 100 known combinations in this genus, the amount of species in ''Paecilom ...
