Byron Wilson (basketball)
Byron Neal Wilson (born September 1, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player who also holds Argentinian nationality. A 6-foot-3 guard, he played college basketball at Utah for 3 years, sitting out his freshman year due to Proposition 48. He was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the second round of the 1993 NBA draft (54th overall), but he was cut before the beginning of the 1993–94 NBA season and started his professional career in the CBA. He then moved to Argentina and he began a long career there, playing 570 games in the Liga Nacional de Básquet, scoring 11,149 points, and winning 4 national championships, 3 Finals MVP titles, and one Liga Sudamericana title. He retired in 2010 after a 17-year professional career. 1993 NBA Draft
The 1993 NBA draft took place on June 30, 1993, at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The draft had some talented players at the top, but injuries and personal problems hurt many of them. Chris Webber, Penny Hardaway, Allan Houston, and Jamal Mashburn were All-Stars whose careers were cut short by injuries. Isaiah Rider and Vin Baker showed great potential but were plagued by personal problems. Bobby Hurley's career was derailed by a car wreck in December of his rookie year. Proposition 48 (NCAA)
Proposition 48 is an NCAA regulation that stipulates minimum high school grades and standardized test scores that student-athletes must meet in order to participate in college athletic competition. The NCAA enacted Proposition 48 in 1986. As of 2010, the regulation is as follows: Before a high school student can be eligible to play Division I sports, he or she must meet academic requirements in high school. Those standards include: * The successful completion of 16 core courses. * A sliding-scale combination of grades in high school core courses and standardized-test scores. For example, if a student-athlete earns a 3.0 grade-point average in core courses, that individual must score at least 620 on the SAT or a sumscore of 52 on the ACT. Western Athletic Conference
The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, Washington, and Texas. Due to most of the conference's football-playing members leaving the WAC for other affiliations, the conference discontinued football as a sponsored sport after the 2012–13 season and left the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A). The WAC thus became the first Division I conference to drop football since the Big West in 2000.
