Byari (film)
''Byari'' is a 2011 Indian film in Beary language written and directed by Suveeran. It is the first feature film to be made in this language. The film was screened at various film festivals where it received positive reviews. It released in theatres in Dakshina Kannada region on 9 June 2011. ''Byari'' won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film while Malayalam actress Mallika got a special mention from the National Film Award jury for her performance in the film. Plot The film depicts the culture, tradition and language of the Byari community. It highlights strict laws and regulations of marriage in the community, pros and cons of divorce in Islam and how it affects the women. Suveeran
K. P. Suveeran is a film and drama director from Kozhikode. His first movie ''Byari'' won the National Film Award for Best Film in 2011. This is the first feature film to be made in the Beary language. Biography Suveeran is a native of Azhiyur, Kozhikode. After completing his course at the School of Drama, Calicut University, Trichur, and the School of Performing Arts, Pondicherry, though he was expelled from the National School of Drama, Delhi in his final year. Recognized as an actor, director and painter, he has to his credit almost thirty plays and four short films which have also received many awards. In Islam, ’''iddah'' or ''iddat'' (; "period of waiting") is the period a woman must observe after the death of her husband or after a divorce, during which she may not marry another man. One of its main purposes is to remove any doubt as to the paternity of a child born after the divorce or death of the prior husband. 59th National Film Awards
The 59th National Film Awards, presented by the Directorate of Film Festivals, honoured the best of Indian cinema for 2011 and took place on 3 May 2012 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The Beary (also known as Byari) are a community concentrated along the southwest coast of India, mostly in the Mangalore district of the south Indian state of Karnataka. The Beary community of Tulunadu is one among the earliest Muslim inhabitants of India, with a clear history of more than 950 years.
