Buøy
Buøy is an island in the municipality of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the borough of Hundvåg in the city of Stavanger. The island was formerly separated from the island of Hundvåg by a small channel of water, but that was filled in. Buøy is connected to the mainland city of Stavanger by a series of bridges over three other islands and the Byfjorden. Buøy is also the name of an official neighborhood (''delområde'') of the city. The neighborhood has a population of 1,792 which is distributed over an area of including the islands of Buøy, Engøy, Sølyst, and Grasholmen. History The name "Buøy" comes from 'Bu-skap' and 'øy', meaning an island where farmers earlier had their cattle. Buøy has long been the site for ''Rosenberg Mekaniske Verksted''. Hundvåg is a borough of the city of Stavanger which lies in the southwestern part of the large municipality of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. The borough includes a number of islands lying to the north of the main city centre of Stavanger. It includes the islands of Hundvåg, Sølyst, Grasholmen, Engøy, Buøy, Bjørnøy, Roaldsøy, and Ormøy. These islands are all connected together by bridges and they are connected to mainland Stavanger by the Stavanger City Bridge. The borough has a population (2015) of 13,217. Hundvåg (island)
Hundvåg is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island is located in the borough of Hundvåg, just north of the centre of the city of Stavanger, separated by the Byfjorden. The island is relatively flat and very urbanized. There were 9803 residents of the island in 2014. There are some agricultural areas as well as a lot of industry. The small island of Buøy is connected to the south side of Hundvåg by a small man-made isthmus. Hundvåg Church is located on the island. Transportation Hundvåg is connected to the mainland by a series of bridges connecting the islands of Buøy to Engøy to Sølyst to Grasholmen and then over the Stavanger City Bridge to the mainland of the city. Engøy
Engøy is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the "neighborhood" of Buøy in the borough Hundvåg in the city of Stavanger, just north of the city centre. The island is almost completely urbanized with many houses on the east side and a lot of industry on the west side. There were 461 residents on the island in 2014. The island is connected to mainland of Stavanger via the Engøy Bridge, which connects Engøy to the islands Sølyst and Grasholmen, and by the Stavanger City Bridge which connects Sølyst and Grasholmen to the mainland. Engøy was historically part of Hetland municipality until 1 January 1879 when it was transferred to the city of Stavanger.
