Buyeo National Museum
Buyeo National Museum () is a national museum located in Buyeo County, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. Since Buyeo was once the capital of the Baekje kingdom during the Sabi period (538-660), the Museum is fully devoted to the Baekje culture. History It was moved from the downhills of Buso Mountain to the current location. It is the royal road of Sabi Baekje, where ancient Baekje culture blossomed the most splendidly, and its footsteps and true appearance can be easily found. Under this cultural background, the Buyeo National Museum has a history of about 80 years, starting with the Buyeo Antiquities Preservation Society, which was launched in 1929. Buyeo County
Buyeo County () is a county in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. Buyeo-eup, the county's capital, was the site of the capital of Baekje from 538-660 AD, during which it was called Sabi Fortress. Famous people associated with Buyeo County in more recent times include noted stem-cell researcher Hwang Woo-suk. Geography Buyeo is located at the southern area of Chungcheongnam-do, the heart of the Korean peninsula. During the Three Kingdoms Era, the capital of Baekje was moved to present-day Buyeo-eup (then called Sabi) on account of crowding in the former capital, which was near present-day Seoul. A fortress called Garimseong was constructed for defending the new capital. South Chungcheong Province (), informally called Chungnam, is a Administrative divisions of South Korea, province of South Korea in the Hoseo region in the southwest of the Korean Peninsula. Baekje Kingdom
Baekje or Paekche (; ) was a Korean kingdom located in southwestern Korea from 18 BCE to 660 CE. It was one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, together with Goguryeo and Silla. While the three kingdoms were in separate existence, Baekje had the highest population of approximately 3,800,000 people (760,000 households), which was much larger than that of Silla (850,000 people) and similar to that of Goguryeo (3,500,000 people). Baekje was founded by Onjo, the third son of Goguryeo's founder Jumong and Soseono, at Wiryeseong (present-day southern Seoul). Baekje, like Goguryeo, claimed to succeed Buyeo, a state established in present-day Manchuria around the time of Gojoseon's fall. Gilt-bronze Incense Burner Of Baekje
The Gilt-bronze Incense Burner of Baekje was designated as the 287th National Treasure of Korea on May 30, 1996. Currently housed at the Buyeo National Museum, it was originally excavated at an ancient temple site in Neungsan-ri, Buyeo County in South Chungcheong Province in 1993. The incense burner was the largest find among the 450 artifacts excavated. The Gilt-bronze Incense Burner of Baekje is a symbol of the artistry of the Baekje people and a masterpiece of Korean art. The incense burner measures 64 centimeters in height, the body is 19 centimeters in diameter, and weighs 11.8 kilograms. It was probably made in the 6th century. It was originally published as physical books from 1991 to 2001. There is now an online version of the encyclopedia that continues to be updated.
