Butts Band (album)
''Butts Band'' is the first album by Butts Band, released on January 15, 1974. "Pop-a-Top" was released as a single, with "Baja Bus" on the B side. Band founders Robby Krieger and John Densmore would assemble an entirely new group of musicians for the band's second and final album, 1975's ''Hear and Now''. Critical reception In a retrospective review for AllMusic, Joe Viglione gave the album a rating of three and a half out of five stars. He noted that the album is "very musical and great stuff, it just had no image, introduced us to new personalities." 1996 compilation Both albums by the Butts Band were repackaged together and released in 1996 as One Way label's, "The Complete Recordings". Two studio bonus tracks, "That's All Right" and "Lovin' You For All The Right Reasons", were added to the album. Butts Band
Butts Band was a British and American group formed by ex-Doors members John Densmore and Robby Krieger, active from 1973 to 1975. The band released two albums and, with the exception of Krieger and Densmore, they consisted of different band personnel on each. History Butts Band came about as a consequence of the Doors trying to find a replacement for lead singer Jim Morrison, who had died in July 1971. The three remaining Doors had released two albums ('' Other Voices'' in 1971 and '' Full Circle'' in 1972), with Ray Manzarek and Krieger sharing vocals. Unable to recruit a singer in the US, the three Doors went to London in 1973 seeking an experienced lead singer and auditioned several British singers, including Howard Werth (the singer of Audience), Kevin Coyne (from Siren) and Jess Roden (who was the leader of Bronco). Phil Chen
Phillip David Chen OD (21 October 1946 – 14 December 2021) was a Jamaican bassist. He was one of Britain's most utilized session bassists during the 1970s and 1980s, including for Jeff Beck as well as for the Rod Stewart band from 1977 to 1980, but is probably best known for his later work with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of the Doors. Life and career Chen was born on 21 October 1946 and was of Chinese ancestry. He spent much of his early life in Kingston, Jamaica, and attended St. George's College. Larry McDonald (percussionist)
Larry McDonald is a Jamaican percussionist. He was born in Port Maria, Jamaica in 1937. McDonald played congas with Carlos Malcolm's band, Toots and the Maytals and the Count Ossie Band. He plays a wide variety of traditional percussion instruments. Career McDonald has over a half century history of recording and performing with a wide variety of artists, such as Gil Scott-Heron, Taj Mahal (musician), Lee "Scratch" Perry and The Skatalites. In 2009, McDonald released his first solo album "Drumquestra," which features many of his former collaborators, including Sly Dunbar, Uziah Thompson of Bob Marley and the Wailers and the former Count Ossie drummers known as the "Mystic Revelation Of Rastafari." in an orchestra of drummers. Wurlitzer Electric Piano
The Wurlitzer electronic piano is an electric piano manufactured and marketed by Wurlitzer from 1954 to 1983. Sound is generated by striking a metal reed with a hammer, which induces an electric current in a pickup. It is conceptually similar to the Rhodes piano, though the sound is different. The instrument was invented by Benjamin Miessner, who had worked on various types of electric pianos since the early 1930s. The first Wurlitzer was manufactured in 1954, and production continued until 1983. Originally, the piano was designed to be used in the classroom, and several dedicated teacher and student instruments were manufactured. It was adapted for more conventional live performances, including stage models with attachable legs and console models with built-in frames. Mick Weaver
Mick Weaver (born 16 June 1944, Bolton, Lancashire, England) is an English session musician, best known for his playing of the Hammond B3 organ. Career Weaver's band performed as Wynder K. Frog and became popular on the student union and club circuit of the mid 1960s. A brief merging of this band with Herbie Goins and the Night-Timers took his work to a higher level. Wynder K. Frogg — they are billed under this spelling — appeared on the bill at the Saville Theatre, London on 24 September 1967, supporting Traffic on their first UK presentation. Also on the bill were Jackie Edwards and Nirvana. The compere was David Symonds. When Steve Winwood left Traffic to form Blind Faith, Weaver was recruited to replace him and Traffic became ''Mason, Capaldi, Wood and Frog'', soon shortened to ''Wooden Frog''. Mike Stoller
Leiber and Stoller were an American songwriting and record production duo, consisting of lyricist Jerome Leiber (; April 25, 1933 – August 22, 2011) and composer Michael Stoller (born March 13, 1933). As well as many R&B and pop hits, they wrote numerous standards for Broadway. Leiber and Stoller found success as the writers of such crossover hit songs as " Hound Dog" (1952) and " Kansas City" (1952). Later in the 1950s, particularly through their work with the Coasters, they created a string of ground-breaking hits—including " Young Blood" (1957), " Searchin'" (1957), "Yakety Yak" (1958), and " Charlie Brown" (1959) — that used the humorous vernacular of teenagers sung in a style that was openly theatrical rather than personal. Kansas City (Jerry Leiber And Mike Stoller Song)
"Kansas City" is a rhythm and blues song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller in 1952. First recorded by Little Willie Littlefield the same year, as "K. C. Loving", the song later became a chart-topping hit when it was recorded by Wilbert Harrison in 1959. "Kansas City" is one of Leiber and Stoller's "most recorded tunes, with more than three hundred versions", with several appearing in the R&B and pop record charts. Original song "Kansas City" was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, two nineteen-year-old rhythm and blues fans from Los Angeles. Neither had been to Kansas City, but were inspired by Big Joe Turner records. Jess Roden
Jess Roden (born 28 December 1947) is an English rock singer, songwriter and guitarist. Biography Roden's first band was The Raiders followed by The Shakedown Sound which also included the guitarist Kevyn Gammond, and keyboard player August Eadon (a.k.a. Gus Yeadon). In 1966, he joined The Alan Bown Set as their new lead singer. Although their records rarely charted, Roden and the band did pick up a considerable fan base in London, and belatedly became a minor star on the Northern soul scene, with the release of their single "Emergency 999". He remained with the Alan Bown through the late 1960s, but left after recording the album '' The Alan Bown!'' His vocals were re-recorded by his replacement Robert Palmer for the UK release of the album, although Roden's original vocals remained on the US release.
