Butthole Surfers (EP)
''Butthole Surfers'' is the debut studio EP by American rock band Butthole Surfers, released in July 1983. It is also known as ''Brown Reason to Live'' and ''Pee Pee the Sailor'' (see " Title controversy"). All songs were written and produced by Butthole Surfers. The album was originally released on Alternative Tentacles. The center label on vinyl printings invited listeners to play the record at 69 RPM, a joke referencing the famous sex position. The album's back cover features a mildly distorted image of famed Mexican luchador Santo. Kurt Cobain listed the EP in his top fifty albums of all time. Music The album consists of seven songs that mostly feature heavily distorted guitar with largely nonsensical, barely intelligible lyrics, alternately sung by lead vocalist Gibby Haynes and guitarist Paul Leary. Butthole Surfers are an American rock band formed in San Antonio, Texas, by singer Gibby Haynes and guitarist Paul Leary in 1981. The band has had numerous personnel changes, but its core lineup of Haynes, Leary, and drummer King Coffey has been consistent since 1983. Teresa Nervosa served as second drummer from 1983 to 1985, 1986 to 1989, and 2009. Latino Buggerveil
Latino Buggerveil is an independent record label and publishing company that was founded by psychedelic noise-punk band the Butthole Surfers. The label's first release was the 1987 album ''A Texas Trip'', a various artists compilation which was co-released by Caroline Records. Following 1989's '' Double Live'', a limited edition release documenting the band's 1988 tour, Latino Buggerveil became largely dormant as a record company and was instead used as the new name for the group's publishing company, which until that point was known as "Second Harvest." In 1999, the Butthole Surfers reactivated the label in order to reissue most of the group's 1980s catalogue, whose rights had reverted to the group following a lawsuit with Touch and Go Records. King Coffey
King Coffey (born Jeffrey Coffey; 1964) is an American drummer, known for being the drummer of the Psychedelic rock, psychedelic/noise rock band Butthole Surfers. He began drumming in a Fort Worth, Texas, Fort Worth Hardcore punk, hardcore punk band called The Hugh Beaumont Experience in high school. Around that same time, he also published a fanzine called ''Throbbing Cattle''. He saw the Butthole Surfers for the first time in 1982 at a time when Scott Matthews was their drummer. Coffey replaced him in 1983 and is still the band's official drummer. In 1990, Coffey founded the independent record label Trance Syndicate, and released records by primarily Texas-based artists, including his band Drain (noise rock band), Drain. Gibson Jerome Haynes (born September 30, 1957) is an American musician, radio personality, painter, author and the lead singer of the band Butthole Surfers. Early life and career Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Gibby Haynes is the son of actor Jerry Haynes, best known as Dallas-based children's TV host " Mr. Peppermint," and Doris Haynes.
