Butte Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of Oregon, a tributary of the Pudding River. Course Originating from the Panther Rock Ridge, its source is a remote portion of the Cascade Range designated as Santiam State Forest in Butte Basin, about north of Gates. Butte Basin contains Copper Lake and Butte Lakes at elevation . The stream meanders slightly northwest through steep mountainous and heavily forested terrain for about two-thirds of its length. Cascade Range
The Cascade Range or Cascades is a major mountain range of western North America, extending from southern British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to Northern California. It includes both non-volcanic mountains, such as the North Cascades, and the notable volcanoes known as the High Cascades. The small part of the range in British Columbia is referred to as the Canadian Cascades or, locally, as the Cascade Mountains. The latter term is also sometimes used by Washington residents to refer to the Washington section of the Cascades in addition to North Cascades, the more usual U.S. term, as in North Cascades National Park. Oregon Route 211
Oregon Route 211 is a state highway which runs through part of the northeastern portion of Oregon's Willamette Valley. Its northeastern terminus is its intersection with U.S. Route 26 in Sandy, a small town on the outskirts of the Portland metro area. It runs south and west, through farmland and forest, to its southwestern terminus with OR 99E in Woodburn. After its intersection with OR 99E, a short segment (about 2 miles) of Oregon Route 214 connects OR 211 with Interstate 5. A segment (about 5.5 miles) of OR 211 north of Estacada is shared with OR 224. Monitor, Oregon is an unincorporated community in Marion County, Oregon, United States It is about northeast of the city of Mt. Angel, on Butte Creek in the Willamette Valley. It is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area. ''Oregon Geographic Names'' (OGN) states that a local story about the possible origin of the name "Monitor" is that it is derived from a type of flour mill, the Monitor mill, in use in the early days of the community. In 1990, however, a descendant of one of the owners of the mill told ''OGNs compiler that the mill was named after the Civil War ironclad warship the USS ''Monitor''. Furthermore, the community of Monitor did not exist until 1869, when the post office was established, and this was apparently the first use of the name for the locality. Oregon Route 213 (OR 213) is an Oregon state highway that serves the eastern Willamette Valley between Portland and Salem. It is a north–south route. The route (except for its southernmost segment) is known as the Cascade Highway, though specific segments are generally better known by more localized names. Route description OR 213 begins on the grounds of Portland International Airport at an intersection with Airport Way, halfway between I-205 and the airport terminal. It heads south, where it is known as N.E. and S.E. 82nd Avenue, a major five-lane thoroughfare through east Portland, until reaching its other end at OR 224 in the Clackamas area. Scotts Mills is a city in Marion County, Oregon, United States. The population was 357 at the 2010 census. It is south of Marquam and Oregon Route 213, between Silverton and Molalla. Scotts Mills is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is near the site of the 1993 Scotts Mills earthquake. Gates is a city on the border of Linn and Marion counties in Oregon, United States. The population was 471 at the 2010 census. The greater part of Gates' population is in Marion County and the city is primarily under Marion County's jurisdiction. The Marion County portion of Gates is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the Linn County portion is part of the Albany– Lebanon Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Gates' first post office was established in 1882 on the south side of the Santiam River as Henness, named for the first postmaster, Jane Henness. The post office later moved to the north side of the river as Gatesville but the post office was established with the name Gates on February 12, 1892.
