Buranda
Buranda is a neighbourhood in the southern Brisbane suburbs of Greenslopes and Woolloongabba in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia. The location is an important transport hub for southern Brisbane. Logan Road and Ipswich Road pass through the area as does the South East Busway with a station called Buranda busway station. The Pacific Motorway passes through the area. There is also the Buranda railway station on the Cleveland railway line. Buranda State School
Buranda State School is a heritage-listed state school at 24 Cowley Street, Woolloongabba, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Department of Public Works (Queensland) and built from 1920 to 1928. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 28 April 2017. History Buranda State School, established in 1918, is located in the suburb of Woolloongabba, approximately three kilometres southwest of the Brisbane CBD. It is important in demonstrating the evolution of state education and its associated architecture. It retains its suburban timber school building (1920, 1928) with WWII honour boards (1944, post-1945); set in landscaped grounds with a swimming pool, dressing shed and terraces (1926); sports oval; retaining walls (1926–36); and mature trees. Woolloongabba ( ) is an inner southern Suburbs and localities (Australia), suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Woolloongabba had a population of 8,687 people. Geography Woolloongabba is located by road south of the Brisbane GPO. It contains the Brisbane Cricket Ground ('the Gabba') and the Princess Alexandra Hospital (Brisbane), Princess Alexandra Hospital. Buranda Railway Station
Buranda railway station is located on the Cleveland line in Queensland, Australia. It is one of two stations serving the Brisbane suburb of Woolloongabba, the other being Park Road. West of the station, the line joins the Beenleigh line via a triangle junction. History Buranda station opened in 1889 as Logan Road station, being renamed Buranda in July 1917. On 15 July 1996, the Fisherman Islands line to the Port of Brisbane opened to the north of the station. In the early hours of 29 March 2009, the main station building on platform one was destroyed by fire. A 17-year-old man was later charged with one count of arson following the incident. From 8 January 2024, the station was temporarily closed for an accessibility upgrade. This upgrade includes additions of lifts, raised platforms, hearing loops and disability compliant ticket windows. It is expected to reopen in 2025. Buranda Busway Station
Buranda busway station is located in Brisbane, Australia serving the suburb of Buranda. It opened on 30 April 2001 when the South East Busway was extended from Woolloongabba to Eight Mile Plains. On 29 August 2011, Buranda became a junction station when the Eastern Busway was extended to Langlands Park. The Cleveland railway line is a suburban rail transport, railway line extending east-southeast from Brisbane central business district, Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It is part of the Queensland Rail Citytrain network. TransApex was a road transport plan devised by Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman in the early 2000s to connect existing motorways and major arterial roads with new transport links and divert cross-city traffic out of the Brisbane central business district. The plan is currently being delivered by Brisbane City Council at an estimated total cost of over $10 billion across five stages. South East Busway
The South East Busway is a grade separated bus-only road running south from the Brisbane central business district to Springwood in Queensland, Australia. The busway was completed to Woolloongabba in September 2000, to Eight Mile Plains in April 2001 and Springwood in 2025. An extension of the busway to School Road at Rochedale was completed in 2014 with no additional busway stations at the time, though had later been extended to Springwood in 2025 with the addition of the Rochedale station. The maximum capacity of the busway is 18,000 commuters an hour during peak periods and is estimated to carry 70 million passengers annually.
