Bungartiidae
''Bungartius'' is an extinct genus of arthrodire ("joint-necked") fish from the Late Devonian period of Ohio. It is the sole member of the family Bungartiidae, related to the giant ''Titanichthys''. The first specimen of ''Bungartius'' was recovered by Peter A. Bungart in Cuyahuga County, Ohio, and came from strata belonging to the Cleveland Shale, Cleveland Shale Member of the Ohio Shale. A second, more complete specimen was discovered in 1943 by David Dunkle, David H. Dunkle, who, four years later, named a new genus and species to accommodate them. ''Bungartius'' may have been Durophagy, durophagous, meaning that it would have eaten hard-shelled Invertebrate, invertebrates. The Devonian ( ) is a geologic period and system of the Paleozoic era during the Phanerozoic eon, spanning 60.3 million years from the end of the preceding Silurian period at million years ago ( Ma), to the beginning of the succeeding Carboniferous period at Ma. ''Dunkleosteus'' is an extinct genus of large arthrodira, arthrodire ("jointed-neck") fish that existed during the Late Devonian period, about 382–358 million years ago. It was a pelagic fish inhabiting open waters, and one of the first vertebrate apex predators of any ecosystem. ''Dunkleosteus'' consists of ten species, some of which are among the largest placoderms ("plate-skinned") to have ever lived: ''D. terrelli'', ''D. belgicus'', ''D. denisoni'', ''D. marsaisi'', ''D. magnificus'', ''D. missouriensis'', ''D. newberryi'', ''D. amblyodoratus'', ''D. raveri'', and ''D. tuderensis.'' ''Diplognathus'' is a genus of arthrodire placoderm from the Late Famennian Cleveland Shale of Late Devonian Ohio, known only from incomplete fragments of jaws and skulls. What fragments are known suggest that the living animals were large-eyed piscivores with weak, but widely gaping jaws. ''D. mirabilis'' is thought to be fairly large, with infragnathals up to 45 centimeters in length.
