Bulwell
Bulwell is a market town and former civil parish in the Nottingham district, in the ceremonial county of Nottinghamshire, England. It is south-west of Hucknall and to the north-west of Nottingham. The United Kingdom Census 2011 recorded the population of Bulwell at 29,771 which amounted to over 10 per cent of Nottingham city's population. The 2011 census gave a population of 16,157 for the Bulwell ward of Nottingham City Council. There is an adjacent ward, Bulwell Forest, which includes Highbury Vale, Rise Park and the west of Top Valley, its population at the same census being 13,614. History Early settlers The earliest documented settlements in Bulwell appeared around 800 AD, and were most likely built around the same time as the first local bridge across the River Leen. Highbury Vale
Highbury Vale is an area located in the city of Nottingham, and is located in the Bulwell Forest ward (which includes Rise Park and the western area of Top Valley). The area forms part of a conservation area and is located roughly from the City Centre, and about from Bulwell. Surrounding areas include Bulwell towards the North, Bestwood to the east, Hempshill Vale to the west and Cinderhill and Basford towards the south. At the 2001 census, the area had a population of 4,530. Facilities Most facilities in Highbury Vale are located on Highbury Road. River Leen
The River Leen is a 15-mile (24 km) long tributary of the River Trent that flows through Nottinghamshire, and the city of Nottingham in the East Midlands of England. The name Leen developed through various renderings of the Celtic word meaning "lake" or "pool" (''Llyn'' in modern Welsh). Some of the surrounding villages derived their name from the River Leen. Lenton, ''ton'' being the Saxon word for "village"; and Linby, ''by'' being the Danish equivalent of ''ton.'' Course The Leen rises as a series of springs at the foot of the Robin Hood Hills just outside Annesley. Basford, Nottinghamshire
Basford is a northerly suburb of Nottingham, in Nottinghamshire, England, incorporated into the city in 1877. It gave its name to Basford Rural District, which existed from 1894 to 1974. Rise Park, Nottingham
Rise Park is a suburb of Nottingham four miles north of the City Centre and three miles north-east of junction 26 of the M1 motorway. It comprises approximately 1500 homes, primarily privately owned houses and bungalows, and a small number of low rise, three-storey flats. Construction of the estate began in the early 1960s, starting at the bottom of the hill to the west and gradually spreading upwards and eastwards to be completed in the early 1970s. It was built on the former site of Rise Farm (known as Bulwellrise Farm until around 1900), the southern boundary of which ran along the edge of what is now Rise Park Road, Langbank Avenue and Bracadale Road. The farmhouse had stood on what would now be the south-east corner of Haverhill Crescent. On the western boundary ran a railway line, closed in the mid-1960s and now a tree-lined footpath. Hucknall
Hucknall () is a market town in the Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, Ashfield district of Nottinghamshire, England, north of Nottingham, southeast of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, from Mansfield and south of Sutton-in-Ashfield. Hucknall is on the west bank of the River Leen, Leen Valley, on land which rises from the River Trent, Trent Valley in the south and extends northwards to Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Henry Isaac Stevens
Henry Isaac Stevens FRIBA was an architect based in Derby. He was born in London, in 1806, and died in 1873. In the late 1850s he changed his name to Isaac Henry Stevens. Family His parents were Isaac Stevens and Elizabeth Young. He married Anne, the daughter of William Martin on 7 August 1832 in Repton, Derbyshire. They had four children. In the 1861, census he is listed as Isaac H Stevens living in Ashbourne Road, Mackworth, Derbyshire. In the 1871, census he is listed as living at 20 Peartree Road in Litchurch, Derby. Career He was articled to William Martin in Bretby, and was also a pupil of George Maddox (architect), George Maddox. He started in independent practice in 1834 in Hartshorne, Derbyshire. He moved to Derby in the late 1830s or early 1840s and was based at 16 Full Street in Derby. By 1847 he was at 49 Friargate, Derby. In 1857 he is listed as living in Mackworth. Wollaton is a suburb and former civil parish in the western part of Nottingham, in the Nottingham district, in the ceremonial county of Nottinghamshire, England. Wollaton has two wards in the City of Nottingham (''Wollaton East & Lenton Abbey'' and ''Wollaton West''), with a total population of 24,693 at the 2011 census.
