Bulqan
Bulqan (also, Bulgan and Bulghan) is a village and municipality in the Nakhchivan city of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerbaijan. It is located 5 km in the south from the city center, on the bank of the Araz River. Its population is busy with grain-growing, vegetable-growing, animal husbandry, fruit-growing and horticulture. It has a population of 1,150. A 12th to 19th century necropolis, now mostly submerged, is registered with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Etymology According to sources at certain stages of history, the Bulgars who came to Azerbaijan were separated to the branches as ''bulgan, chakar, kuyvar, kuruqir, gul, gazan, iskilv'' and have spread in different areas of Azerbaijan. Most likely, the name of the village was formed at the result of the phonetic transformation of the tribal name ''Bolgar'' (Bolgar-Bulgar-Bulgan). Nakhchivan ( ; ) is the capital and largest city of the eponymous Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, a Enclave_and_exclave#True_exclaves, true exclave of Azerbaijan, located west of Baku. Babek District
Babek District () is one of the 7 districts of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. The district borders the districts of Julfa, Shahbuz, Kangarli, Nakhchivan city, as well as the Vayots Dzor Province of Armenia and the East Azerbaijan and West Azerbaijan provinces of Iran. Its capital and largest city is Babek. As of 2020, the district had a population of 76,200. History It was formerly known as ''Nakhchivan District'' (till 1978). Yuxarı Qışlaq
Yuxarı Qışlaq (also, Yukhary Kyshlak, Maghara-Kishlag and Ismail Kyshlak) is a village and municipality in the Shahbuz District of Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan. It is located 17 km in the north-east from the district center, on the bank of the Yukhary Kyshlak River (tributary of Nakhchivanchay River). Aras Dam
The Aras Dam (; ) is an embankment dam on the Aras River along the border of Iran and Azerbaijan. It is located downstream of Poldasht in West Azerbaijan Province, Iran and Nakhchivan City in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerbaijan. The primary purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power generation and water supply. History On 11 August 1957, a protocol was signed between the Soviet Union and Iran in Tehran to construct the Aras Dam on the Aras River.
