Bullenbaai
Bullenbaai is a bay on the central west coast of Curaçao in the Netherlands Antilles. Covering one sixth of the length of the island's west coast, it extends from the lighthouse at Kaap Sint Marie in the north to the town of Sint Michiel in the south. Bullenbaai is also home to the Curaçao Oil Terminal. The terminal was built to facilitate economical transshipments of 1,200,00 b/d Eastern Hemisphere crude arriving in "Very Large Crude Carriers" for storage and subsequent carriage by smaller ships to draft restricted U.S. ports. Crude can be transported from the storage tanks through pipelines to the refinery in the Port of Willemstad. The terminal was bought by the Government of Curaçao, and reopened in 2020 after renovation. The terminal employed 535 people in 2020. Sint Michiel
Sint Michiel (also Boca Samí) is a former fishing village in Willemstad lying at the south end of Bullenbaai bay on the west coast of Curaçao. It is located to the northwest of the island's city centre. Overview The St. Michiel Bay is locally known as "Boca Samí" and is situated between the much smaller Blue Bay, Curaçao, Blue Bay and Vaersenbaai. It is named after Michael (archangel), Saint Michael. Vaersen Bay used to be the Curaçao Police recreational facility. It is now the beach club Kokomo Beach Curacao. The bay was once defended by two Dutch West India Company, WIC forts. The ruins of the main fort are still visible. These forts provided protection from Jacques Cassard, French pirates and the British Navy though they were occupied by both in the 18th and early 19th Century. Curaçao, officially the Country of Curaçao, is a constituent island country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, located in the southern Caribbean Sea (specifically the Dutch Caribbean region), about north of Venezuela. Bandabou
Bandabou (also: Band'abou) is a district of the island of Curaçao, a constituent of the Netherlands. It is one of the three districts in the island, and encompasses the north-western parts of the island. The district stretches from Grote Berg to Sabana Westpunt. Bandabou is a Papiamentu word, which translates to "lower side". History In 1634, Curaçao was conquered by the Dutch West Indies Company and the city of Punda was founded. Agricultural plantations were established during Dutch colonization to supply Willemstad along with livestock. The plantations were small scale due to the infertile ground, and produced yams, mangos, oranges. In 1795, the population of Bandabou was estimated at 4,000 to 5,000 people most which were slaves. After the emancipation of slavery in 1863, small hamlets were founded in Bandabou.
