Bulldog Hanover
Bulldog Hanover (foaled May 21, 2018) is a retired champion Canadian Standardbred racehorse who is known for becoming the first harness horse to complete a mile in under 1:46. He was also the first horse to be unanimously selected as the American Harness Horse of the Year, Dan Patch Horse of the Year. He has been likened to legends Somebeachsomewhere and Niatross and is considered to be among the best harness horses of all time. Bulldog Hanover was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2023. Background Bulldog Hanover is a bay stallion with a small white star on his forehead and white hind pasterns. He was bred by Hanover Shoe Farms and was foaled in Hanover, Pennsylvania. American Harness Horse Of The Year
The Harness Horse of the Year is an honor recognizing the top harness racing horse in the United States. The award is selected by the United States Trotting Association and the United States Harness Writers Association (USHWA), which issues the annual Dan Patch Awards. The inaugural honor was awarded to Victory Song of Castleton Farms Stables, named the "Harness Horse of 1947" by a committee that consisted of 50 harness racing writers, radio commentators, and sports editors. Victory Song picked up 23 first-place votes, to lead a field of 22 horses that had been nominated for the honor, edging stablemate Hoot Mon, which finished second in the balloting. Victory Song had set the harness racing record for stallions with a time of 1:57.6 in the mile. E. Confederation Cup Pace
The Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup is a harness race for Standardbred pacers run annually at Flamboro Downs in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Set at a distance of one mile, it was first run in 1977 as the Confederation Cup Pace and through 2012 it was a race for three-year-olds. Placed on hiatus for 2013 and 2014, upon reinstatement in 2015, the Confederation Cup Pace was changed to an event for four-year-olds. The race was not contested in 2020 or 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, it was renamed the Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup in honour of Flamboro Downs' co-founder, Charles Juravinski, who died that year. Harrah's Hoosier Park Racing & Casino is a racino including a standardbred racetrack located in Anderson, Indiana, approximately 30 miles northeast of Indianapolis. Mohawk Racetrack
Mohawk Racetrack (branded as Woodbine Mohawk Park) is a harness racing track in Campbellville, Ontario. It is owned by Woodbine Entertainment Group (formerly the Ontario Jockey Club) and is about 40 km southwest of the company's other racetrack, Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario. Woodbine Mohawk Park also has a large slot machine parlour with over 1,000 slot machines, which is operated by Great Canadian Gaming; some of the revenue from this operation is used to increase the horseracing purses. The Ontario Sire Stakes is a category of Canadian Thoroughbred and Standardbred horse race. For Thoroughbred horse races, the race is restricted to horses of either sex sired by a stallion standing in the Province of Ontario for his entire season the year of conception and registered with the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society for that season. For the Ontario Standardbred Sires Stakes program, the foal's stallion must be registered with the Ontario Sires Stakes program. Shadow Play (foaled 5 June 2005 in Pennsylvania) is a world-record-holding standardbred racehorse. He was sired by The Panderosa, out of Matts Filly, a Matts Scooter mare. The colt was purchased as a yearling for $16,000, and is owned by Dr Ian Moore of Charlottetown, PEI, R G McGroup LTD of Bathurst, NB, and Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Serge Savard of Saint-Bruno, Quebec. 2 Year Old Campaign Shadow Play made his racing debut on 21 June 2007 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Along with owner and trainer Ian Moore, he beat a field of maiden pacers by 4-1/2 lengths.
