Bulgarian Rhapsody
''Bulgarian Rhapsody'' ( bg, Българска рапсодия) is a 2014 Bulgarian drama film directed by Ivan Nitchev. It was selected as the Bulgarian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards, but was not nominated. There was some controversy in the selection due to Nitchev's involvement with the Bulgarian National Film Council. The film is part of a historic trilogy about Bulgarian Judaism, which consists of the films: ''After the End of the World'' (1999) and ''The Journey to Jerusalem'' (2003). Ivan Nitchev
Ivan Nitchev ( bg, Иван Ничев; born 31 July 1940) is a Bulgarian film director and screenwriter. He has directed 16 films since 1972. His 1989 film ''Ivan and Alexandra'' was entered into the 39th Berlin International Film Festival. His 2014 film '' Bulgarian Rhapsody'' was the Bulgarian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards. He graduated from the State Academy for Theater and Film in Łódź, Poland. In 1978 he became a teacher for film and television directing at the NATFA, where he is the dean of the Screen Arts Faculty. He directed over 15 feature films which have numerous national and international awards. List Of Bulgarian Submissions For The Academy Award For Best Foreign Language Film
Bulgaria has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1970. The award is handed out annually by the United States-based Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature length motion picture produced outside the U.S. that contains primarily non-English language dialogue. It was not created until the 1956 Academy Awards, in which a competitive Academy Award of Merit was created for non-English speaking films, and has been given annually since. Since 1970, Bulgaria has submitted twenty-eight films for consideration. No Bulgarian film has yet been nominated for an Oscar, although their 2009 submission was shortlisted for the 2010 Best Foreign Language Film award. This is a list of submissions to the 87th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of a number of countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. It is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length film produced outside the United States with primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process, reviewing all films submitted. For the 87th Academy Awards, held on 22 February 2015, a submitted motion picture must be released theatrically in its respective country between 1 October 2013 and 30 September 2014. Tatyana Lolova
Tatyana Lolova ( bg, Татяна Лолова; 10 February 1934 – 22 March 2021) was a Bulgarian stage and film actress. She was best known for her comedy roles that she played for more than 40 years, bringing her the reputation as one of the most popular Bulgarian actresses. Biography and career Lolova was born on 10 February 1934, in the Bulgarian capital city of Sofia. Her mother was of Russian-Ukrainian descent. Her father Zhelyazko Lolov was an accountant. Tatyana enrolled in the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts where she graduated in 1955. After the graduation, she was appointed in Russe Theatre, where Lolova remained until the end of 1956 when she joined the troupe of the newly founded Satirical Theatre "Aleko Konstantinov“ in Sofia. She died in Sofia from complications following a COVID-19 infection contracted on 6 March during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bulgaria. She was 87 and was cremated. Moni Moshonov
Shlomo "Moni" Moshonov ( he, שלמה "מוני" מושונוב; born 18 August 1951) is an Israeli actor, comedian, and theater director. Early and personal life Moshonov was born in Ramla, Israel, to a Sephardic Jewish family that immigrated to Israel from Sofia, Bulgaria. His father, Moshe, who studied law in Sofia, sold textiles at the Ramla market. Moshonov grew up in Ramla, Israel. He did his military service in an Israel Defense Forces entertainment troupe.
