Buje
Buje ( it, Buie) is a town situated in Istria, Croatia's westernmost peninsula. Buje was known as the "sentinel of Istria" for its hilltop site located inland from the Adriatic Sea. History Buje has a rich history; traces of life in the region date back to prehistoric times. The town developed from a Roman and Venetian settlement into a medieval town. Buje was part of the Republic of Venice from 1358 until 1797, when the Treaty of Campo Formio handed it over to Austria. It was annexed by France after the Treaty of Schönbrunn in 1809 but restored to Austria at the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Buje passed to Italy at the end of World War I in 1918, where it remained until 1945. In 1947, it became part of the Free Territory of Trieste Zone B, which was administered by Yugoslavia. In October 1954, Zone B together with Buje was united with the Socialist Republic of Croatia, and remains part of independent Croatia today. Malcolm Buie Seawell
Malcolm Buie Seawell (December 18, 1909 – January 19, 1977) was an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as North Carolina Attorney General from 1958 to 1960. Seawell was raised in Lee County, North Carolina. After law school, he moved to Lumberton and joined a law firm. From 1942 to 1945 he worked for the U.S. Department of War in Washington, D.C. He then returned to Lumberton and successfully ran for the office of mayor in 1947. He held the post until the following year when he was appointed 9th Solicitorial District Solicitor. While working as solicitor Seawell gained state-wide prominence for his aggressive efforts to prosecute the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), and was credited for ultimately pushing the organization out of Robeson County. Timothy M. Buie is a pediatric gastroenterologist at Boston Children’s Hospital. Buie joined Harvard Medical School in 1998 after previously practicing at Pediatric Gastroenterology Associates for eight years. He was also the director of Gastrointestinal and Nutritional Services at MGH's Lurie Center for Autism. He is well known for his research pertaining to the possible connection between autism and gastrointestinal disorders, and has told the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee that over half of autistic children experience gastrointestinal symptoms, whereas he stated that this was the case for "between 50 and 70%" of children with autism in an interview with ABC News. He has also said that a subset of autistic children (though not the majority) may benefit from gluten-free, casein-free diets, and that more research is needed into this area. It is an evergreen, dioecious perennial, with glossy heart-shaped leaves and white catkins. Desure Buie (born February 21, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg of the Basketball Bundesliga and the Basketball Champions League (BCL). He played college basketball for Hofstra. Early life and high school career Buie attended Wings Academy in Bronx, New York. As a senior, he averaged 17.1 points per game and led New York City in assists. Cullen R. Buie is an African American mechanical engineer specializing in microbial fuel cells. Life and career Education Buie's passions changed during high school when he attended an engineering camp that gave him the opportunity to receive college credits and scholarships. This led him to study mechanical engineering at Ohio State University, receiving his Bachelors of Science in 2003. He then went on to earn a Master of Science (M.S.) in 2005 at Stanford University, as well as his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in 2009 in mechanical engineering. At Stanford, he was a National Science Foundation graduate research fellow, working under Juan Santiago. While working towards his Ph.D, Buie worked on microfluidic electro-osmotic pumps for fuel cells at Stanford.
