History Bug Films was established in September 2021 by Hiroaki Kojima, a producer working at OLM at the time, producing the anime MIX, Major 2nd, and Bungo and Alchemist -Gears of Judgement- for the studio. Most of the studio's staff are former members of his production arm at OLM. During the first year of the studio's life, Kojima and his staff fulfilled prior obligations at OLM, producing the anime series Komi Can't Communicate and Summer Time Rendering, both series that Bug Films was given cooperation credits for on occasion. Komi Can't Communicate
is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by . It was serialized in Shogakukan's manga magazine ''Weekly Shōnen Sunday'' from May 2016 to January 2025, with its chapters collected in 37 volumes. The series is licensed in North America by Viz Media. The story centers around Shoko Komi, a high school girl who suffers from extreme social anxiety and struggles to communicate with others. With the help of her classmate Hitohito Tadano, they embark on a mission to make 100 friends and improve Komi's communication skills. An eight-episode live-action television drama adaptation was broadcast from September to November 2021, while an anime television series adaptation produced by OLM aired from October to December of the same year; a second season aired from April to June 2022. Kamome Shirahama
is a Japanese freelance manga artist and illustrator. She is best known for her '' Witch Hat Atelier'' series. She has created variant covers and other illustrations for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and stories in the ''Star Wars'' franchise. She did the character designs for ''The Elder'', part of the ''Star Wars: Visions'' short film series released in 2021, and she wrote the 2022 manga adaptation for it. She has won and been nominated for multiple awards, including the Eisner Award, the Harvey Award, the Kodansha Manga Award, the Manga Taishō, the Daruma d'or manga at the Japan Expo Awards, the Mangawa Award, and the Prix Babelio. Ayumu Watanabe
is a Japanese animation director. After joining Shin-Ei Animation, he directed multiple ''Doraemon'' animated films. As a freelancer, he also worked on numerous animated adaptations such as '' Space Brothers'', '' After the Rain'', and '' Komi Can't Communicate''. Witch Hat Atelier
