Bug (1975 Film)
''Bug'' is a 1975 American science fiction horror film directed by Jeannot Szwarc and written by William Castle and Thomas Page, from Page's novel ''The Hephaestus Plague'' (1973). Shot in Panavision, it was the last film Castle was involved in before his death in 1977. The film starred Bradford Dillman, Joanna Miles and Richard Gilliland. The film initially depicts a new insect species, which faces extinction. Professor James Parmiter, a widowed scientist crossbreeds the species with cockroaches, creating a sentient hybrid species of insects. Plot An earthquake releases a species of previously unknown insect which can create fires by rubbing their legs together. Eventually however, most of the bugs die because they cannot survive in the low air pressure on the Earth's surface. After his wife Carrie dies when one of the insects crawls in her hair, Professor James Parmiter keeps one alive in a pressure chamber. He becomes obsessed with the insect and successfully breeds ... Jeannot Szwarc
Jeannot Szwarc (21 November 1937 – 14 January 2025) was a French director known for his work in American film and television. His film credits included '' Jaws 2'', ''Somewhere in Time'', ''Supergirl'' and '' Santa Claus: The Movie''. Szwarc had a prolific career spanning 6 decades before retirement from the industry in France. Early life and education Szwarc was born into a Polish-Jewish family in Paris on 21 November 1939. When the Germans invaded the French capital in 1940, his family fled first to Portugal via Spain and then to Argentina. James Greene (American Actor)
James Greene, born James Thomas Nolan, (December 1, 1926 – November 9, 2018) was an American film, theater and television character actor. Greene was best known to television audiences for his recurring role as Councilman Fielding Milton, the oldest member of the fictional Pawnee city council on '' Parks and Recreation'', as well as his starring role as Davey McQuinn the elevator operator on '' The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd'', which aired for five seasons on NBC and Lifetime from 1987 to 1991. He also had a recurring role as Uncle Moodri in the Fox Network science fiction TV series '' Alien Nation''. The final edition was published in September 2014. Leonard Michael Maltin (born December 18, 1950) is an American film critic, film historian, and author. He is known for his book of film capsule reviews, '' Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide'', published from 1969 to 2014. Maltin was the film critic on ''Entertainment Tonight'' from 1982 to 2012. He currently teaches at the USC School of Cinematic Arts and hosts the weekly podcast ''Maltin on Movies''. He served two terms as President of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and votes for films to be selected for the National Film Registry. He has written books on animation and the history of film. He has also hosted numerous specials and provided commentary for several films. In 2021, he released his memoir, ''Starstruck: My Unlikely Road to Hollywood''. He received the Robert Osborne Award from Turner Classic Movies in 2022.
