Buckaroo (instrumental)
"Buckaroo" is a 1965 instrumental country single by Buck Owens & The Buckaroos. The single was Buck Owens' fourth No. 1 on the country chart in less than a year. "Buckaroo" spent 16 weeks on the chart. The B-side, entitled "If You Want A Love", peaked at No. 24 on the country chart weeks later. To date, it is the last instrumental to top the Hot Country Songs chart. "Buckaroo" was also performed live by The Byrds, and a version can be heard on their album '' Live at the Fillmore - February 1969''. The piece has been covered by Leo Kottke, Danny Barnes, and others. Alvis Edgar "Buck" Owens Jr. (August 12, 1929 – March 25, 2006) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was the frontman for The Buckaroos, which had 21 No. 1 hits on the ''Billboard'' country music chart. He pioneered what came to be called the Bakersfield sound, named in honor of Bakersfield, California, Owens's adopted home and the city from which he drew inspiration for what he preferred to call "American music". While the Buckaroos originally featured a fiddle and retained pedal steel guitar into the 1970s, their sound on records and onstage was always more stripped-down and elemental. The band's signature style was based on simple story lines, infectious choruses, a twangy electric guitar, an insistent rhythm supplied by a prominent drum track, and high, two-part vocal harmonies featuring Owens and his guitarist Don Rich. Kenneth F. Nelson (January 19, 1911 – January 6, 2008) was an American record producer and A & R man for Capitol Records. Early life Born in Caledonia, Minnesota, Nelson made his radio debut as a singer, at the age of 14, in 1925. and performed in various bands during his teen years, working with musician Lee Gillette several times. The Byrds
The Byrds () were an American Rock music, rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1964. The band underwent multiple lineup changes throughout its existence, with frontman Roger McGuinn (known as Jim McGuinn until mid-1967) being the sole consistent member. Leo Kottke (born September 11, 1945) is an American acoustic guitarist. He is known for a fingerpicking style that draws on blues, jazz, and folk music, and for syncopated, polyphonic melodies. He has overcome a series of personal obstacles, including partial loss of hearing and a nearly career-ending bout with tendon damage in his right hand, to emerge as a widely recognized master of his instrument. He resides in the Minneapolis area with his family. Focusing primarily on instrumental composition and playing, Kottke also sings sporadically, in an unconventional yet expressive baritone described by himself as sounding like "geese farts on a muggy day". As a youth living in Muskogee, Oklahoma, he was influenced by folk and delta blues music, notably that of Mississippi John Hurt.
