Buchholz In Der Nordheide
Buchholz in der Nordheide (, ; Northern Low Saxon: ''Bookholt'') is the largest town in the district of Harburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximately 25 km southwest of Hamburg. Geography Buchholz is home to the Brunsberg, at 129m the highest mountain in the region. It is on the northern edge of the Lüneburg Heath (''Lüneburger Heide''), hence the suffix to the name. History In 1958, Buchholz received its city charter. In 1992, Buchholz was struck by a small tornado which destroyed many trees and damaged numerous houses. In 2002, the temperature in Buchholz rose above 38 degrees celsius, marking an all-time high for its region. In 2006, Buchholz tried to set a new world record by placing a crowd of 2000 people in the form of a large heart near the local swimming pool. The attempt ultimately failed because 39 people did not show up. Division of the town The districts of Steinbeck, Dibbersen, Seppensen, Holm-Seppensen, Sprötze and Trelde belong to Buch ... Buchholz Relay
In electric power distribution and transmission, a Buchholz relay is a safety device mounted on some oil-filled power transformers and reactors, equipped with an external overhead oil reservoir called a "conservator". The Buchholz relay is used as a protective device sensitive to the effects of dielectric failure inside the equipment. A generic designation for this type of device is "gas detector relay". The relay was first developed by Max Buchholz (1875–1956) in 1921. Application Buchholz relays have been applied on oil-filled power and distribution transformers at least since the 1940s. The relay is connected to the oil piping between the overhead conservator tank and the main oil tank of a transformer. The piping between the main tank and conservator is arranged so that any gas evolved in the main tank tends to flow upward toward the conservator and gas detector relay. Buchholz relays have also been used in electric trains that operate on AC Electrified lines, includin ... Buchholz's ID Hierarchy
In set theory and logic, Buchholz's ID hierarchy is a hierarchy of subsystems of first-order arithmetic. The systems/theories ID_\nu are referred to as "the formal theories of ν-times iterated inductive definitions". IDν extends PA by ν iterated least fixed points of monotone operators. Definition Original definition The formal theory IDω (and IDν in general) is an extension of Peano Arithmetic, formulated in the language LID, by the following axioms:W. Buchholz, "An Independence Result for (\Pi^1_1\textrm)\textrm", Annals of Pure and Applied Logic vol. 33 (1987). * \forall y \forall x (\mathfrak_y(P^\mathfrak_y, x) \rightarrow x \in P^\mathfrak_y) * \forall y (\forall x (\mathfrak_y(F, x) \rightarrow F(x)) \rightarrow \forall x (x \in P^\mathfrak_y \rightarrow F(x))) for every LID-formula F(x) * \forall y \forall x_0 \forall x_1(P^\mathfrak_x_0x_1 \leftrightarrow x_0 < y \land x_1 \in P^\mathfrak_) The theory IDν with ν ≠ ω is defined as: * |

Buchholz Psi Functions
Buchholz's psi-functions are a hierarchy of single-argument ordinal functions \psi_\nu(\alpha) introduced by German mathematician Wilfried Buchholz in 1986. These functions are a simplified version of the \theta-functions, but nevertheless have the same strength as those. Later on this approach was extended by Jäger and Schütte. Definition Buchholz defined his functions as follows. Define: *Ωξ = ωξ if ξ > 0, Ω0 = 1 The functions ψ''v''(α) for α an ordinal, ''v'' an ordinal at most ω, are defined by induction on α as follows: *ψ''v''(α) is the smallest ordinal not in ''C''''v''(α) where ''C''''v''(α) is the smallest set such that *''C''''v''(α) contains all ordinals less than Ω''v'' *''C''''v''(α) is closed under ordinal addition *''C''''v''(α) is closed under the functions ψ''u'' (for ''u''≤ω) applied to arguments less than α. Buchholz Hydra
In mathematics, especially mathematical logic, graph theory and number theory, the Buchholz hydra game is a type of hydra game, which is a single-player game based on the idea of chopping pieces off a mathematical tree. The hydra game can be used to generate a rapidly growing function, BH(n), which eventually dominates all recursive functions that are provably total in "\textrm_", and the termination of all hydra games is not provably total in \textrm\Pi_1^1\textrm. Rules The game is played on a ''hydra'', a finite, rooted connected tree A, with the following properties: * The root of A has a special label, usually denoted +. * Any other node of A has a label \nu \leq \omega. * All nodes directly above the root of A have a label 0. If the player decides to remove the top node \sigma of A, the hydra will then choose an arbitrary n \in \N, where n is a current turn number, and then transform itself into a new hydra A(\sigma, n) as follows. Let \tau represent the parent of \sigma, ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Bucholz Army Airfield
Bucholz Army Airfield is a United States Army airfield located on Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands. Its position is ideal for refueling during trans-Pacific flights, and the airport is available to civilians through Air Marshall Islands and United Airlines. Since the entirety of Kwajalein Atoll is a military base, non-military passengers on commercial flights are transported to and from the neighboring island of Ebeye, the civilian population center of Kwajalein Atoll. History Bucholz Army Airfield was initially built by the Japanese in 1943 as part of a large naval base. It came under heavy air attacks in late 1943 to neutralize the island. The atoll was assaulted by American forces on 31 January 1944. Employing the battle-hardened tactics developed under fire during the Battle of Tarawa, the United States launched a dual assault on the main islands of Kwajalein in the south and Roi-Namur in the north. Despite being outnumbered and under-prepared, the Japanese resis ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Buchholz High School
F. W. Buchholz High School (commonly referred to as Buchholz (pronounced ) or BHS) is a high school in Gainesville, Florida, United States. Buchholz is one of seven high schools in Alachua County. Opened in January 1971, it is the largest public high school in Gainesville, with 2,241 students in 2020. The Buchholz Math Team was dubbed "America's Greatest Math Team" by The Wall Street Journal in 2022, when Buchholz won first place for the 14th time in the annually held national Mu Alpha Theta math competition. History Establishment The School Board of Alachua County began construction in 1968 for two new high schools in the rapidly expanding suburbs of Gainesville, Florida, to supplement the city's two existing public high schools. The new school in the northwest suburbs was named F.W. Buchholz, in honor of a distinguished Alachua County educator who had died a few years earlier, while the school in the eastern suburbs was named Eastside High School. The school board hoped to ...
