Bryophryne
''Bryophryne'' is a genus of frogs in the family Strabomantidae. These frogs are endemic to south-eastern Peru in the Cusco Region, with an undescribed species from the Puno Region. Their range is separated from that of ''Phrynopus'' by the Apurímac River valley. Taxonomy The genus ''Bryophryne'' was erected in 2008 to accommodate two species that were in ''Phrynopus'' at that time; subfamily Holoadeninae was erected at the same time and placed in Strabomantidae. Description Species of the genus ''Bryophryne'' are smallish frogs, reaching maximum snout–vent length of in ''Bryophryne cophites''. Head is narrower than the body. Differentiated Tympanum (anatomy), tympanic membrane, tympanic annulus, Columella (auditory system), columella, and cavum tympanicum are absent. Phrynopus Cophites
''Bryophryne cophites'', also known as the Cusco Andes frog or the Cuzco Andes frog, is a species of frog in the family Strabomantidae. It is endemic to Peru and known only from slopes of the Abra Acanacu (also spelled Acjanaco or Acanaco) in the Cordillera de Paucartambo, Cusco Region. There is an unconfirmed record from a neighboring mountain range, so this species might be more widespread than current knowledge suggests. Description Adult males measure and adult females in snout–vent length. The head is narrower than the body. The snout is short, rounded in dorsal view and rounded to truncate in lateral view. Tympanum is absent. The canthus rostralis is moderately sharp. Skin is dorsally finely areolate, becoming coarser towards the flanks and the ventrum. The hind limbs are very short.
