Bruchsal (; orig. Bruohselle, Bruaselle, historically known in English as Bruxhall; South Franconian German, South Franconian: ''Brusel'') is a city at the western edge of the Kraichgau, approximately 20 km northeast of Karlsruhe in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is located on Bertha Benz Memorial Route. Bruchsal is the largest city in the district of Karlsruhe (district), Karlsruhe and is known for being Europe's largest asparagus producer and one of the economic centers of Karlsruhe (region), the region of Karlsruhe. The Bruchsal area also includes the cities and towns of Bad Schönborn, Forst (Baden), Forst, Hambrücken, Karlsdorf-Neuthard, Kraichtal, Kronau (Baden), Kronau, Oberhausen-Rheinhausen, Östringen, Philippsburg, Ubstadt-Weiher and Waghäusel. Bertha Benz Memorial Route
The Bertha Benz Memorial Route is a German tourist and theme route in Baden-Württemberg and member of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. It opened in 2008 and follows the tracks of the world's first long distance road trip by a vehicle powered with an internal combustion engine, in 1888. History Bertha Benz's husband, Karl Benz, patented the first automobile designed to produce its own power in January 1886 (Reichspatent No. 37435). In early August 1888, without her husband's knowledge, Bertha Benz, with her sons Richard (aged 14) and Eugen (aged 15), drove in Benz's newly constructed Patent Motorwagen No. 3 automobile, from Mannheim to her own birthplace, Pforzheim, becoming the first person to drive an automobile powered with an internal combustion engine over more than a very short distance. Graben-Neudorf
Graben-Neudorf is a municipality in Northern Karlsruhe district in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It was created when the two communities of Graben and Neudorf were united on January 1, 1972. With this union Neudorf was transferred from the district of Bruchsal to the district of Karlsruhe. History The village of Graben was probably created between the 5th and 7th century, though this isn't entirely certain. An ancient Roman road (partly visible to this day) connecting Kehl, Mühlburg, Heidelberg, and Neuenheim runs north/south through the Graben area. The discovery of Roman coins in the area suggest a Roman camp was located around the current site of the city. The first documentary evidence of Graben only dates back to 1306. By the 14th and 15th century was Graben already a regional hub for trade as well as the church. Graben came under the jurisdiction of the Margraviate of Baden in 1312. Saalbach (Rhine)
The Saalbach is a (including its source river Weißach) right tributary of the Rhine running through the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The river source is in the Kraichgau region near the city of Bretten, formed by the confluence of the rivers Weißach and Salzach. It then flows through Gondelsheim to the northwest, then through Bruchsal and Karlsdorf. It then turns north through Philippsburg before emptying into the Rhine. Karlsruhe is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the northwest of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Rhein-Neckar, Heilbronn, Enz, Calw, Rastatt, Germersheim, Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis and the district-free city Speyer.
