Bruce Weber (administrator)
Bruce Weber (1951 – 13 April 2006) was an Australian rules football administrator with the Port Adelaide Football Club. Born in Port Adelaide, South Australia, Weber played junior football with South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club Port Adelaide before becoming president of Port Adelaide Football Club from 1986 to 1992. In this role, Weber led a charge for the club to receive a licence in the Australian Football League (AFL). In 1990 this move almost came to fruition but for the formation of a new South Australian club, the Adelaide Football Club, to receive the licence and enter the AFL in 1991. Weber was succeeded by Greg Boulton as president/chairman in 1993, with the Port Adelaide Football Club eventually entering the AFL in 1997. It is considered that Weber's initial vision during his time as president led to this outcome. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an Australian rules football playing field, oval field, often a modified cricket ground. 1991 AFL Season
The 1991 AFL season was the 95th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), which was known previously as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season ran from 22 March until 28 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top six clubs, an increase from the top five clubs which had contested the finals since 1972. The season saw expansion of the league to fifteen clubs, with the admission of the newly established Adelaide Crows, based in Adelaide, South Australia. Greg Boulton
Gregory Colin Boulton BA is a former Australian rules football administrator with the Port Adelaide Football Club. Greg Boulton was president of Port Adelaide Football Club from 1992 to 2008. He played an integral part in completing Bruce Weber's goal of transitioning Port Adelaide from an SANFL club to an AFL club. He oversaw the period during which Port Adelaide won five SANFL premierships and one AFL premiership. 1997 AFL Season
The 1997 AFL season was the 101st season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season ran from 27 March until 27 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. Before the season, the Port Adelaide Football Club (SANFL) was admitted to the league, increasing the South Australian membership to two clubs.
