Bruce Doucette
Bruce Doucette is an American sovereign citizen guru and self-proclaimed "Superior Court Judge of the Continental United States of America". Doucette, the owner of a computer repair shop in Denver, Colorado, advised people in encampments in Costilla County on how to oppose land-use regulations. At the commencement of the Bundy standoff at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge he announced that he would convene a " citizens grand jury" and threatened to hold "a trial with the redress of grievance" against county and other government officials. He was blocked by a judge from participating in the trial. In 2018, he was sentenced to 38 years in Colorado state prison after a two-week trial on 34 counts of racketeering, tax evasion, retaliation against judges and other charges. Sovereign Citizen Movement
The sovereign citizen movement (also SovCit movement or SovCits) is a loose group of anti-government activists, conspiracy theory, conspiracy theorists, vexatious litigants, tax protesters and financial scammers found mainly in English-speaking common law countries—the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. Sovereign citizens have their own Pseudolaw, pseudolegal belief system based on misinterpretations of common law, and claim not to be subject to any government statutes unless they consent to them. The 2014 Bundy standoff was an armed confrontation between supporters of cattle rancher Cliven Bundy and law enforcement following a 21-year legal dispute in which the United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) obtained court orders directing Bundy to pay over $1 million in withheld grazing fees for Bundy's use of federally owned land adjacent to Bundy's ranch in southeastern Nevada. Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is a National Wildlife Refuge located roughly south of the city of Burns, Oregon, Burns in Oregon's Harney Basin.
