Bruce Davie
Bruce Davie is a noted Australian computer scientist known for his work in the networking field. He has co-authored several textbooks, including (with Larry L. Peterson, Larry L Peterson) ''Computer Networks: A Systems Approach''. Dr. Davie received his B.E. (Elec) from the University of Melbourne in 1984 and his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh in 1988. He recently served as the Chief Technology Officer for Asia Pacific and Japan at VMware, Inc., VMware Inc. He joined VMware via the acquisition of software-defined networking (SDN) company Nicira, where he was Chief Service Provider Architect. Prior to Nicira, he was a Fellow at Cisco Systems, where he led the team of architects responsible for Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). A Request for Comments (RFC) is a publication in a series from the principal technical development and standards-setting bodies for the Internet, most prominently the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). An RFC is authored by individuals or groups of engineers and computer scientists in the form of a memorandum describing methods, behaviors, research, or innovations applicable to the working of the Internet and Internet-connected systems. It is submitted either for peer review or to convey new concepts, information, or, occasionally, engineering humor. The IETF adopts some of the proposals published as RFCs as Internet Standards. However, many RFCs are informational or experimental in nature and are not standards. Internet Engineering Task Force
The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is a standards organization for the Internet and is responsible for the technical standards that make up the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP). It has no formal membership roster or requirements and all its participants are volunteers. Their work is usually funded by employers or other sponsors.
