Brown Agouti
The brown agouti (''Dasyprocta variegata'') is a species of agouti in the family Dasyproctidae that is Native species, native to portions of central or southeastern Peru, east to western Brazil (specifically within the Subdivisions of Brazil, administrative divisions of Acre (state), Acre, Amazonas (Brazilian state), Amazonas, and Rondônia), south to a strip of Bolivia. It was originally regarded as conspecific with the Central American agouti (''Dasyprocta punctata''), but revised as distinct. The brown agouti has an orange-brown body, with an average length of 61 cm (24.01 in), and a weight of 1.8 kg (3.96 lbs). Dark head, rump, and midline of the back. Peruvian individuals have a fairly different and distinctive coloration (''see text below''). The species is commonly preyed upon by the South American jaguar. Johann Jakob Von Tschudi
Johann Jakob von Tschudi (25 July 1818 – 8 October 1889) was a Switzerland, Swiss naturalist, explorer, and diplomat. He is known for his travels in South America, his scientific contributions to zoology and anthropology, and his diplomatic service for Switzerland. Early life and education Tschudi was born in Glarus to Johann Jakob Tschudi, a merchant, and Anna Maria Zwicky. He studied natural sciences and medicine at the universities of Neuchâtel, Leiden, and Paris. Exploration and scientific work In 1838, Tschudi travelled to Peru, where he remained for five years exploring and collecting plants in the Andes. He moved to Vienna in 1843. In 1845, he described 18 new species of South American reptiles. Between 1857 and 1859, he visited Brazil and other countries in South America. Tschudi wrote a textbook on Peru titled ''Peruvian Antiquities'' in which he recorded various aspects of Peruvian life and history.
