Brothers Rugby Club
Brothers Rugby Club (formally Brothers Old Boys) is an Australian rugby union club based in Brisbane, Queensland. The name alludes to its beginnings as a rugby club founded by alumni of schools established by the Congregation of Christian Brothers. Brothers competes in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition against nine of the state's best Rugby Union clubs. The club was established in 1905 and has won 30 'A' Grade premierships. They have produced 272 Queensland and 96 Internationals including 83 Wallaby players over the last century. The club is located at Crosby Park, Albion where it has a clubhouse, two canteens and the use of two illuminated fields. Queensland Rugby Union
The Queensland Rugby Union, or QRU, is the Sports governing body, governing body for the sport of Rugby union in Queensland in Australia. It is a member and founding union of Rugby Australia. History The QRU was founded in Brisbane in 1883 as the ''Northern Rugby Union'', after breaking away from the Queensland Football Association (1880–1890), Queensland Football Association before being formally constituted in 1893 when the name was changed to the Queensland Rugby Football Union. The first 1883 season began with two clubs: Fireflies and Wanderers. Early intercolonials were played at Eagle Farm Racecourse. The competition boomed after the collapse of the QFA in 1890 with the majority of the remaining Australian rules players making the switch to rugby. Australian National Rugby Union Team
The Australia men's national rugby union team, nicknamed the Wallabies, is the representative men's national team in the sport of rugby union for Australia. The Wallabies first played at Sydney in 1899, winning their first test match against the touring British Isles team. Australia has competed in all ten Men's Rugby World Cups, winning the final on two occasions and also finishing as runner-up twice. Australia beat England at Twickenham in the final of the 1991 Rugby World Cup and won again in 1999 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff when their opponents in the final were France. Jimmy Flynn (rugby)
James P. Flynn (23 June 1894 – 1965) was an Australian rugby union player, a state and national representative centre and half-back. His representative career lasted from 1912 to 1914 and he captained the national side on one occasion in 1913, the youngest player to ever do so. He was later a Queensland state selector. Rugby career Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Flynn was schooled at St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace. His first grade career was played with the Brothers Old Boys club in Brisbane. He was a prodigious talent and was first selected to represent at Queensland state level one day before his 18th birthday. The South Sydney District Rugby League Football Club, also known as the South Sydney Rabbitohs, is an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the Sydney suburb of Maroubra, New South Wales, Maroubra that competes in the National Rugby League (NRL). The Shute Shield, currently known as the Charter Hall Shute Shield, is a semi-professional rugby union competition in Sydney, Australia. It is the premier club competition in New South Wales. Australian Club Championship
The Australian Club Championship is a rugby union challenge match between the Brisbane and Sydney club premiers. The fixture was played on a regular basis from 1982 to 1991 (inclusive) and again since 2007, and also on an ad hoc basis in various other years. The regular scheduling was initially abandoned in 1993 when the NSWRU insisted on playing each match at Concord Oval in Sydney, rather than on a rotating basis. The championship was revived when it was agreed that the winners of the 2006 premierships would play the challenge match as a curtain raiser to the following year's Queensland Reds and NSW Waratahs match in the Super 14 competition. Brisbane Rugby League Premiership
The Brisbane Rugby League premiership was a rugby league football competition in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was first held in 1922 and for every year until 1997. The competition was reinstated in 2001, known as the FOGS premiership under the Queensland Cup. The competition consists of Brisbane's top six rugby league clubs.Each participating team is a feeder club for the Queensland Cup. Prior to 1922, the competition was conducted under the auspices of the Queensland Rugby League. The University of Queensland Rugby Club is an Australian rugby union, rugby club, based at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Queensland. They currently compete in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition. They were formed in 1911, as rugby was adopted by the Sports Association at the University of Queensland as a major sport. Wests Rugby Union Club or Wests is an Australian rugby union club, based in Toowong, Queensland, Toowong, that competes in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition. The bulk of Wests' players are drawn from the western suburbs of Brisbane where local rivals GPS Rugby, GPS and University of Queensland Rugby Club, University, only a few suburbs away, also compete for players. Glen Panoho
Glen Matthew Panoho (born 12 May 1971) is an Australian former rugby union international. Panoho, who is of Maori heritage, was born in Kaikohe, New Zealand. He moved to Queensland at the age of 12 and attended Nudgee College, where his father had been recruited to coach rugby. A prop, Panoho was an Australian underage representative and made his Queensland Reds debut in 1993. He gained 21 caps for the Wallabies between 1998 and 2003, which included the team's first ever 3–0 series win over the All Blacks, as well as their maiden Tri Nations title. Panoho was coach of the Sunshine Coast Stingrays from 2007 to 2010, before which he coached Japanese club Ricoh Black Rams for three seasons. He has since joined the construction industry. Sean Hardman
Sean Hardman (born 6 May 1977) is a former Australian rugby union player who played as a hooker for the Queensland Reds in the Super Rugby competition. He also represented internationally, where he made his debut against in 2002. Career Born in Sydney, but grew up in Brisbane, Sean went to the prestigious rugby nursery, St Joseph’s Nudgee College. Hardman debuted for the Reds in 1999 against the Auckland Blues and has since played over 100 games for the Queensland side. Hardman has also represented Australia at test, under 21 and A level and was the Wallabies third string hooker at the 2007 Rugby World Cup behind Adam Freier and Stephen Moore. Hardman made his test debut against France in 2002 but slowly fell out of favour with the Wallaby selectors despite consistent form with the Reds and did not make another test appearance until 2006 in the Wallabies 49–0 defeat against the Springboks with a cameo off the bench.
