Bronllys Hospital
Bronllys Hospital () is a health facility in Bronllys, Wales. It is managed by Powys Teaching Health Board. The Basil Webb Hall and the Chapel are Grade II listed buildings. The hospital grounds are listed as Grade II on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales. History The hospital was established as a tuberculosis facility known as the South Wales Sanitorium. It was designed by Edwin Thomas Hall and Stanley Hall in the arts and crafts style and was opened by King George V and Queen Mary in 1920. The chapel, which was a gift from Sir David Llewellyn and Lord Buckland, opened at the same time. The hospital joined the National Health Service in 1948. One of the buildings, Glasbury House, is now the headquarters of Powys Teaching Health Board and it was announced in February 2015 that Llewellyn Ward would remain open with GP support. Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB) () is the local health board of NHS Wales for Powys in Mid Wales. PTHB is responsible for healthcare in Powys, covering the same area as Powys County Council. Sir David Richard Llewellyn, 1st Baronet JP (9 March 1879 – 15 December 1940) was a Welsh industrialist and financier. Early life Llewellyn was born in Aberdare, South Wales on 9 March 1879. He was the son of Elizabeth Llewellyn and Rees Llewellyn (1851–1919), JP and High Sheriff of Breconshire. His paternal grandparents were David Llewellyn and Elizabeth ( Jones) Llewellyn. Powys is a county and preserved county in Wales. It covers an area of and in 2021 the population was approximately 133,600. The Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales was established in 2002 and given statutory status in 2022. Henry Seymour Berry, 1st Baron Buckland (17 September 1877 – 23 May 1928), was a Wales, Welsh financier and industrialist.
