Broadmeadow Locomotive Depot (NSW depot number 2) was a large locomotive depot consisting of two Railway roundhouse, roundhouse buildings and associated facilities constructed by the New South Wales Government Railways adjacent to the marshalling yard on the Main Northern railway line, Main Northern line at Broadmeadow, New South Wales, Broadmeadow. New South Wales D58 Class Locomotive
The D58 class was a class of steam locomotives built by the New South Wales Government Railways in Australia. They were built with the 4-8-2 wheel arrangement. Design In 1943, approval was given for the New South Wales Government Railways Workshops to build 25 freight locomotives. The design was a modified version of the New South Wales D57 class locomotive, 57 class. The main alterations were the use of a rack and pinion valve gear in lieu of the Gresley conjugated valve gear, Gresley 2:1 conjugated valve gear for the middle cylinder and the use of smaller cylinders to enable the locomotives to run to on the Main Northern railway line, New South Wales, Main North line to Broadmeadow, New South Wales, Broadmeadow, a route which had a tighter loading gauge. The Valley Heights Rail Museum is a railway museum located in Valley Heights, New South Wales, Australia. The facility is located north-west of Valley Heights railway station. Singleton railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Singleton. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The station opened on 7 May 1863. The original, listed 1863 John Whitton brick station building remains. It opened as the terminus of the Great Northern Railway when it was extended from Branxton. In 1869, Singleton lost its terminus status when the line was extended north to Muswellbrook. The C32 class is a class of steam locomotives built for the New South Wales Government Railways of Australia. History Introduction When the new Chief Commissioner, Edward Eddy, took office in 1888, he was anxious to have additional locomotives manufactured within the colony of New South Wales, and the Government sought the formation of a manufacturing company in New South Wales by interested parties. When this failed, designs were prepared prior to inviting tenders in England. Beyer, Peacock & Company was selected to build the new locomotives. The first batch of 50 locomotives were delivered between February 1892 and July 1893. They became known as the ''Manchester Engines''. New South Wales D59 Class Locomotive
The 59 class is a class of steam locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton Corporation for the New South Wales Government Railways of Australia. History The class were ordered from Baldwin Locomotive Works, Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton (the former Baldwin Locomotive Works) to relieve motive power shortages. The design is a variation on the USATC S200 Class Mikado engine, a design which first appeared in 1941. Twenty locomotives entered service between August 1952 and March 1953. The most immediately apparent difference is the rather stubby short tender that was specially built to allow the 59 class to be turned on a standard turntable. It was the specification of these tenders which considerably delayed the delivery from the initial order. Unfortunately due to the weight of the locomotive it was eventually discovered, in service, that most turntables could not turn the 59 class engine due to balancing issues.
