Broadcasting House (radio Programme)
''Broadcasting House'' (''BH'') is a current affairs programme produced by BBC News for BBC Radio 4, presented by Paddy O'Connell. It was launched on 19 April 1998 and is broadcast every Sunday between 9am and 10am. There used to be a weekly quiz, with a cryptic sound clue pointing to a news event in the last week. The prize was a spoon, originally a jam spoon, but then replaced by a honey spoon. The programme made frequent visits to the "BH beehive" based in southwest London. The competition was nominated for a Sony Award in 2007. More serious features include the headlines and current affairs sections, which look at the background to recent news stories. There is also a review of the Sunday papers with guest reviewers. Current Affairs (news Format)
Current affairs is a genre of broadcast journalism in which major news stories are discussed at length in a timely manner. This differs from regular news broadcasts that place emphasis on news reports presented for simple presentation as soon as possible, often with a minimum of analysis. It is also different from the news magazine show format in that the events are discussed immediately. The UK's BBC programmes such as ''This World'', ''Panorama'', '' Real Story'', '' BBC Scotland Investigates'', '' Spotlight'', '' Week In Week Out'', and ''Inside Out'' fit the definition. BBC Radio 4 is a British national radio station owned and operated by the BBC that replaced the BBC Home Service in 1967. Eddie Mair
Eddie Mair (born 12 November 1965) is a Scottish broadcaster who was a presenter on BBC radio and television. He presented his show on LBC between 4pm and 6pm every weekday until his last one, on 18 August 2022, after which he retired from broadcasting. He also hosted BBC Radio 4's daily news magazine '' PM'', the Radio 4 Saturday ''iPM'', and ''NewsPod''. He occasionally presented ''Newsnight'' and ''Any Questions''. Mair became a stand-in presenter for ''The Andrew Marr Show'' following Marr's stroke. Mair left the BBC in August 2018. Early life Mair was born in Dundee. Fiona Susannah Grace "Fi" Glover (born 27 February 1969) is a British BBC journalist and presenter who formerly presented the ''Fortunately'' podcast, '' The Listening Project'' for BBC Radio 4 and ''My Perfect Country'' for the BBC World Service. Paddy O'Connell
Guy Patrick O'Connell (born 11 March 1966 in Guildford, Surrey) is an English television and radio presenter, working mainly for the BBC. He presents BBC Radio 4's '' Broadcasting House'' programme each Sunday morning. He is also an occasional presenter of Radio 4's '' PM'' programme. O'Connell is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Beehive
A beehive is an enclosed structure in which some honey bee species of the subgenus ''Apis'' live and raise their young. Though the word ''beehive'' is commonly used to describe the nest of any bee colony, scientific and professional literature distinguishes ''nest'' from ''hive''. ''Nest'' is used to discuss colonies that house themselves in natural or artificial cavities or are hanging and exposed. ''Hive'' is used to describe an artificial/man-made structure to house a honey bee nest. Chris Aldridge
Chris Aldridge is a continuity announcer and newsreader for BBC Radio 4. Biography He grew up in Horsham, West Sussex. After one term studying medicine at London Hospital Medical College, Aldridge studied mathematics at Bedford College (University of London). He joined the BBC in 1985, working in the production and archiving departments of Radio 3. He became a newsreader at Radio 5, then a Radio 4 staff announcer in 1995. He spent 2002 training new staff; then returned to the station as a senior announcer alongside Harriet Cass, taking over from Peter Donaldson. Coriona Kear Ware Corfield is a radio broadcaster and producer known especially for her newsreading and continuity announcements on BBC Radio 4. Early life and education She was born 1961 in Oxford. Zebedee Soanes (born 24 June 1976) is a British radio presenter who presents the weekday evening music show ''Smooth Classics at Seven'' on Classic FM (UK), Classic FM.
