Britton Creek
Britton Creek is a tributary of the Tulameen River in British Columbia. This creek is southwest of the old town of Tulameen. Britton Creek is located in a region of British Columbia called the Similkameen. The creek can be reached by road. Britton Creek was originally known as Eagle Creek. It was discovered in 1885 when gold was recovered from the creek. The gold was mainly close to the mouth of the creek. The creek also yielded placer platinum. The last great find was by Garnet Sootheran in 1926. Garnet discovered platinum and gold placer. Tulameen River
The Tulameen River is a tributary of the Similkameen River in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The Tulameen River is part of the Columbia River drainage basin, being a tributary of the Similkameen River, which flows into the Okanagan River, which flows into the Columbia River. Course The Tulameen River originates in E. C. Manning Provincial Park with headwaters at Punchbowl Lake, in the North Cascades part of the Cascade Range. it flows generally north then east, passing Tulameen, British Columbia before joining the Similkameen River at Princeton. It is the only place in the world where both gold and platinum can be found alongside each other, however all significant deposits have been mined. Similkameen Country
The Similkameen Country, also referred to as the Similkameen Valley or Similkameen District, but generally referred to simply as The Similkameen or more archaically, Similkameen, is a region roughly coinciding with the basin of the river of the same name in the Southern Interior of British Columbia. The term "Similkameen District" also refers to the Similkameen Mining District, a defunct government administrative district, which geographically encompasses the same area, and in more casual terms may also refer to the Similkameen electoral district, which was combined with the Grand Forks-Greenwood riding by the time of the 1966 election. The Similkameen Country has deep historical connections to the Boundary Country and the two are sometimes considered one region, partly as a result of the name of the electoral district. Bill Barlee
Neville Langrell "Bill" Barlee (October 6, 1932 – June 14, 2012) was a Canadian politician who was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a New Democrat in 1988 (after unsuccessfully running in the 1969 and 1972 provincial elections). He served as Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from 1991 until 1993 and then as Minister of Small Business, Tourism and Culture from 1993 until his defeat in the 1996 provincial election. Barlee was also well known for his popular TV show on the history of Canada West which he co-hosted with Mike Roberts. This award-winning television series '' Gold Trails and Ghost Towns'', ran from 1986 to 1996 on five different networks nationwide. The show is still seen in reruns.
