Britton, Michigan
Britton is a village in Lenawee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 537 at the 2020 census. The village is located within Ridgeway Township. History The village of Britton was originally called Balch and was established after the Wabash Railroad built a station there in 1881 and a post office opened on August 13, 1881. In 1888, a local storekeeper in charge of the post office named John Britton, paid $500 to have the town renamed after himself. The post office name was changed from Balch to Britton on April 13, 1888. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all land. Deerfield Public Schools
The Deerfield Public School District, was a public school district in Lenawee County, Michigan and covered the area of Deerfield Township, as well as some surrounding areas. It merged with Britton Macon Area schools to form the Britton Deerfield School District in 2011. The two schools had already merged sports teams. It had one building in Deerfield, Michigan which handled a majority of the classes from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. The school now serves as the middle school for the merged Britton-Deerfield district. Some 11th and 12th grade students also attended classes at the LISD TECH Center in Adrian, Michigan. Britton Deerfield School District
The Britton Deerfield School District is located within Lenawee County, Michigan and part of Monroe County. It covers most of Deerfield, Macon, and Ridgeway townships in Lenawee County, and parts of Dundee, Milan, and Summerfield townships in Monroe County. History The district was created on July 1, 2011, when the Britton-Macon Area School District merged with the Deerfield Public School district. For the 2010–11 school year, both school boards voted to adopt a "shared service" plan for their middle and high school students. All high school students (grades 9–12) would attend classes in the Britton building, while all middle school students (grades 6–8) would attend classes in the Deerfield building.
