Brittney Reese
Brittney Davon Reese (born September 9, 1986) is a retired American long jumper, Olympic gold medalist, and a seven-time world champion. Reese is the indoor American record holder in the long jump with a distance of 7.23 meters. Personal Born in Inglewood, California, Reese was a 2004 graduate of Gulfport High School in Gulfport, Mississippi, where she became state champion in the long jump and triple jump. She later attended MGCCC and the University of Mississippi. Reese was a member of the women's basketball team at MGCCC and was recently inducted into their sports Hall of Fame. Reese has been assistant track and field coach at San Diego Mesa College since 2013. Career She was the NCAA Outdoor Champion in long jump in 2007 and 2008. Reese set a personal best in the long jump of in July 2008 in Eugene, Oregon at the U.S. Olympic Trials to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Inglewood is a city in southwestern Los Angeles County, California, in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. As of the 2020 U.S. Census, the city had a population of 107,762. The majority of events took place in the Olympiastadion, while the marathon and racewalking events started and finished at the Brandenburg Gate. 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Women's Long Jump
The women's long jump at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on March 18, 2016. On paper, Brittney Reese came into this meet with a 20 cm better personal best. But the personal best came before a 2014 injury. Her 2015 season was still hampered by recovery. Ivana Španović wasn't reading the paper and took the first round lead with a new indoor personal best 7.00, just short of her outdoor personal best of 7.02. Reese jumped 6.97 to assume second place but couldn't match that until her fifth round jump when she equalled it exactly. For a little over a minute, Reese held the lead based on the tie breaking second best jump. Španović broke that up by jumping a new personal best and National Record of 7.07. 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 16th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics were held between March 17 and 20, 2016 in Portland, Oregon, United States. The event did not feature Russia. Following a WADA investigation into widespread and institutional doping practices in Russian athletics, the IAAF provisionally suspended Russia's membership of the organisation in November 2015, effectively excluding the country both from hosting events and entering competitions. Russia's effective exclusion from the tournament was confirmed in November 2015 when it was announced by IAAF that a decision over lifting its provisional suspension from international athletics would not be taken until the end of March at the earliest. 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics was the 14th edition of the global-level indoor track and field competition and was held between March 9–11, 2012 at the Ataköy Athletics Arena in Istanbul, Turkey. It was the first of four IAAF World Athletics Series events in 2012, which includes the World Race Walking Cup, the World Junior Championships and the World Half Marathon Championships. Preparation The IAAF announced on March 25, 2007, at an IAAF Council meeting in Mombasa, Kenya that it had received bids from Turkey and Qatar to host the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Summary In 2016, Darya Klishina was notable as the only Russian athlete allowed to participate in the Olympic track and field schedule, finishing 9th. Here as an Authorised Neutral Athlete, she made her mark on the athletic field taking the early lead with a 6.78 metre jump in the first round. Later in the round Brittney Reese pulled close with her 6.75 metres. With her 6.96 metres, Ivana Španović jumped into the lead near the beginning of the second round. Summary Two time defending champion, current Olympic champion and world leading Brittney Reese squeaked through qualifying in the last qualifying position.
